Big Tent advice?

Hi,everyone! Obviously, I'm new.

I made an account just to say that I kinda painted myself into a corner. With the exception of Cadar (starting faction) and Steel Song, everybody hates me. My Legendary Criminal status across the other factions range from -233 to -995. I only got back to Steel Song’s good graces because they decided to go on a Solar War twice in a row. And that took a lot of destroying enemy ships before I was allowed to buy a pardon.

Of course I can only blame myself for indiscriminately taking missions early on to level up as fast as possible. I now dread the grind to get the Big Tent award for my captain. I guess it’s safe to say that I should just start a new captain for that, yes? Or is there another way?

Captain – Level 31 on demanding/208.40AE/Military officer/~$400k. Some min-maxing there, couldn’t help it. Force of habit.

At this point, I never really get hit in battle anymore – and my tactics are usually to just close in and shoot out the enemy’s engines.

And incidentally, where can I get a Carrier in the game?

I think you're better off starting over. The game only gets harder as you go along. You're much better positioned for Dark Nemesis - if you haven't already won it, go for it.
If you're going for the Big Tent award, choosing a player class whose profession inherently makes some factions hate him is a bad choice. In addition to Military, that also includes Pirate, Bounty Hunter, Spy, and to a lesser extent, Smuggler. I'd recommend trying one of the more peaceful professions like Merchant or Explorer. They gain reputation by selling licensed goods and records.

Note: the picture you see for your ship only tells you what class of ship you've got, it doesn't indicate the specific ship type. The picture you describe sounds like the one for a Cruiser - the game help claims it's a good ship class for elite smugglers and bounty hunters.

Yeah, I got Dark Nemesis already. And thanks for the advice - I think starting over is the best option. I tried raising rep for another faction but I was losing more than I could gain. ;D

Note to self - do not try to fight with every ship I come across. Haha.
