Actually slayernz I did believe that it was real. The logos I think I've seen before. I also half believed that someone might have been really using cats like that. Sadly we humans have done some bad things to our animal brethren.

Yeah, but I believe super cats protecting us humans is a much more appropriate use of CPL. May Cat forever fly into danger and fight the dreaded Song Steel!

Not sure if you are still looking for ideas, but I got one!
House Dornian (Clan)
Until very recently, House Dornian was a little known clan that scraped by supplying independent colonies. Their fleet of small, relatively cheap transports were often disregarded by the larger syndicate and clan houses which allowed them a relatively free hand in commerce. Eventually the ruling family of the house realized that there was much profit to be made in illicit trade, and as such converted a large portion of their fleet into stealthy blockade runners.
Basically, a smaller house that keeps a small merchant flotilla as a front to legitimize their massive smuggling operations.

johndramey - nice one! We've got to land some of these new syndicates for those flags you saw in the latest ST 2 update!

fallen - I figured as such, there were a lot of flags I didn't know about there so.... Anyways, here's a Syndicate idea; Cordix Syndicate A militant and harshly xenophobic organization, the Cordix tend to be haughty. They do not adapt to a system, the system must adapt to them. Its citizens are trained from birth to follow the greater good and will happily sacrifice themselves for their cause. While they may not have the technological prowess of some of the other, larger clans and syndicates, they make up for what they lack with sheer ferocity. Very little strikes fear into the heart of a captain then seeing a Cordix strike pod bearing down on his or her ship. A xenophobic military syndicate that specializes in boarding with large, primitive ships. Mostly focuses on crew space and hull/armor while neglecting things like "guns" and "torpedoes"

fallen really hoping you saw this and that they can find a way into ST2...and yes I'm lobbying hard despite having missed out on being a ST4X alpha team member Biblios Also known as Archivists or Librarians they were dedicated to the accumulation and preservation of knowledge. Sadly during the guild wars the pen did not prove mightier than the sword and they were mostly absorbed by Rychart and De Valtos. However there are rumors that at least one hive ship made it out in the exodus filled with the last remnants of this syndicate.

I actually like that idea, xdesperado. So basically a brainiac syndicate? Maybe weak militarily (low hull) but technologically strong (+damage / +armor) and more expensive? I'm picturing them like the scribes in A Canticle For Leibowitz.

Yes, was thinking more along Asimov's Foundation, all about gathering and preservation of knowledge with a minimal practical way of implementation for that knowledge. BTW thanks for reminding me of a great book

Sect of the Idolus:
An ancient and secretive order of assassins, who have evolved over the centuries to be an elite force, utilizing the highest and most advanced technologies. The entirety of the Sect has no need of merchants or explorers, or any nonviolent professions, as they are all trained from birth in the art of swift and relentless death. Many members turn to piracy or spy professions, but all are fanatical to the cause of their Sect. Because of this fanaticism, there are an abundance of Zealots and Military Officers, as they have developed a rigid and demanding hierarchy when it comes to their Order.
Encounters with the Idolus are rarely accidental, as they never carelessly initiate contact with anyone, unless they are planning to kill them, or fence nefariously gotten goods to a trusted purveyor. Once their business is completed, they disappear as quickly as they came, using the fastest ships money can buy.
Close quarters combat is where the Sect excels, because they aren't seen until they mean to be, swift and brutal kills come rapidly, until there are no foes left to tell the story of their reckoning.

There should be a clan called Free Song. They are a splinter faction of Steel Song that disagreed with the house nobility in terms of direction and purpose. They fundamentally oppose the prevalence of greed and self-importance, which caused Steel Song to slowly but surely turn towards piracy (as a way of taking what they believe was theirs). Free Steel put a lot of emphasis on doing things for themselves, and as such, have de-focused military development in favour of stronger manufacturing. Free Steel are prepared to rough things out knowing that what they do for the long term requires short-term sacrifice. As such, they lose morale due to accommodation shortages at half other factions, and gain CP bonuses. However, they have fostered a distrust of the military, and suffer from a morale penalty if there is more than 1 military ship in close proximity to their planets. Hahahaha ... I originally started this as a standard dig at Steel Song, but surprisingly it makes sense to have a spin-off from one of the core factions. We all know that Steel Song had a strong military, and that by the time ST RPG came about, their military strength had waned, and their piracy activity increased.
