Well the title says it all, not knowing if there's 2 or just 1 xenos might make a pretty interesting early/mid game.

possibly, but arent you scouting the first 50 or so turns anyway? The xeno at the start of the game arent too interested in shooting you down, they just tend to scare off your scouts from their colonies
You have to be vigilant about your scouting early to observe the xeno's progression! As a result, it really wouldnt matter if there are two or just one, as you'll find them anyway fairly quickly

there is a xeno intel screen that would give it away immediately

ah right the xeno screen. yes i'm scouting but usually expanding pretty freely on 1 xeno maps, and on 2 xeno maps I know there are two so I need to be more careful.
not knowing though..

Cory Trese- make it so the Xeno don't show up on the intel screen until you meet them? That way the only ones that you know about are the ones you encounter
