A system goes independent because of poor starting quality. What if I decide to use Terraforming to improve it? Can I get it back?
Once bank account goes over 100K, money is no object really.

I don't think Indy systems can be reclaimed Neither do I..... I posted another thread in the Wish List to see if the game can remember what the quality was on a purged system before the purge was completed. That way I don't waste colony ships on these garbage systems.

The game needs a better way to display it. If the player re-colonize a purged xeno system, the player should know before the "Colonize" button is tap what exactly the quality was. Maybe even extra game time (1 game year) to terraform the system so it won't go independent. Unlike classic 4x on PC, I cannot reload a save game to skip the colonization of a abysmal quality system. I have to live with what I get after each command issued.

Yeah, I worked very hard to build the saved game system so that you wouldn't be forced to do a "save -> try -> load" cycle in this game -- I always HATED that in other 4X games, made me miserable as a player. I enjoy ST 4X on PC quite a bit more because that unfeature was avoided. I have logged #2633 "4X - RFE - Display More System Details on Colonize Screen" to fix this for you!
