Is there any point in paying for rumours vs. just listening? The number of rumours remains the same, and paid rumours don't seem to be more useful. Am I wasting my silver?

Absolutely pay for the rumors! Paying gives you a much better chance of getting an event rumor, such as Surpluses, Krakken sightings, Resource rushes on islands, etc. You can still get these with the free rumors, they just aren't as likely...

OK, maybe I haven't had luck, I have a feeling everytime I paid for rumours I got something like "The sea is what the sea is"... I'll try again, thank you.
