So, there I was, fighting the deadly Thulun pirate ship that intended to rob me of my water when the dogs boarded me and began to harass my crew.
In response, I dueled them back only to find that the crew had stolen all of my hull and I died.
...Uh...what?
It seems to me that most of my deaths in this game is attributed to some mysterious disappearing hull damage I'm not seeing. In fact, its pretty much the only way I seem to die. Very rarely will I die of something else but when it comes to close range combat, I always seem to die to phantoms, specters and who knows what else.
Is this a bug?

Hey Weddingpeach, First up - welcome to the forum ... it's a bit of a bummer that your first post involves a captains death though. I really feel your pain and have experienced it too. The most common cause of "instant hull breach" is where the enemy pirate ship rammed you and the random "dice rolls" inside the game mechanics caused a critical hit. To call it a bug is probably a bit too much, but it would be at least good if the occurrences are rarer than they are now, and if it does happen, the ships final log should capture the cause of death. "Sadly, your captain perished because the Thulun dogs managed to ram our ship breaching the reactor cooling and causing a cataclysmic explosion. It is my hope that our explosion also took out those bastards".

It wasn't by ramming (my ship had two upgrades that protected against Ramming as well). I was boarded and I chased them and they stole my hull.
I never have this sort of issue in Eve Online.

"I never have this sort of issue in Eve Online."
Eve Online is a bit different than Star Traders RPG. I do appreciate the point you're trying to make, I think. EO provides a a consistent level of detail across combat results.
I am hard at work, however, to improve the display of combat results in ST RPG.
Currently when Boarding combat resolution results in critical defeat (or critical victory) the game's text generation system fails to provide any details and defaults to "10 Damage" which is just a result of bad design.
I will review the Hull damage equations more.

I have harassed Cory about this at least once a week for awhile now. I will vouch for him when he says he is really looking at better ways to fix this lack of information issue.

Hoorays! The recent update seems to have fixed the issue of enemy crews stealing my hull.

Hard at work to make the best use of this forum and the player's feedback as we can.
I appreciate you posting your success. Keep me in the loop if you find anything else =)
