I've had the question "Why does coffee dissolve in water yet tea doesn't?" question thrown at me several times. I've had to explain that coffee isn't soluble, which is why we we use filter machines / cafetieres; it's only the freeze-dried pretend coffee that dissolves in water, as does cheap freeze-dried pretend tea (QT) Astonishingly, many people don't seem to realise that freeze-dried coffee is a lazy option, and not the real thing. One thing I love about American TV shows is that they always have a pot of real coffee on! You never see them making instant. In Britain, EVERYONE drinks instant. Us, the real coffee lovers, are few and far between

A coffee pot != real coffee. Yup, it's a much closer step than instant coffee, but it's still pretty bad compared to a decent cup of expresso- created coffee. Plunger coffee is an even closer step than a coffee pot again. is worse than ... is worse than ... is worse than ... is worse than ... is worse than ... is worse than ...

Does anyone else want to slap the fuq out of someone when they say their favorite coffee is Dunks? ( slayernz insert cat beating the piss out of something) Or when they ask for extra extra? Or say they don't like strong coffees because they taste too much like coffee? I get so mad at people and sometimes I make a scene in public and people stare at me until I go away... Haha chill your scaring the coffee. XD When my mom would say my coffee was so strong it could grow legs and walk away I thought it was a figure of speech.

I love a nice french press When I'm home, I can't drink any coffee without pressing it. I've always found the taste of it so much better. But my Italian ancestors urge me to use those Italian cafetiere

One of my local micro roasters has a pour over bar...nothing like a single cup brew boiling water poured over a pile of freshly coarse ground beans through a ceramic cone (no paper), Just pure thick oily float a horseshoe coffee *coffeegasam*

It's just a matter of training. I don't have any cafetiere anymore but all my Italian family have one and when I spend some time with them I only drink Italian coffee. My mother used to say that the coffee is strong that it would "woke a dead person"...I agree with that...most of the time

I have just about everything except for a vacuum brewer...still need to get one of those. I like to experiment with different types of brewing (k-cups and the like excepted that stuff is heresy!)

beuns Single use prepackaged sealed plastic things you put in kuerig style "coffee" machines www.amazon.com/Keurig-K-Cups/b?ie=UTF8&node=2251596011 They are wasteful crap. A product of over engineering for us lazy Americans. Nespresso uses a similar system and tries to self itself as gourmet. Making lattes/cappacinuos and the like is easy to learn and a starter home pump espresso machine will cost you about the same as the a fore mentioned monstrosities

We have a Nespresso machine at work and it serve it's purpose : doing fast coffee with more water than coffee to please the most people possible... I largely prefer my home coffee with my French press. I do it as fast as a Nespresso (with an electric boiling machine) and it's far better.

I will throw fallen under the cat bus here ... he uses K-Cup. Although as part of the austerity program, he is not permitted to buy the factory made ones, and packs his own grounds into a reusable filter k-cup.
