Cory Trese looking at your post on new armor and wondering if they all require the same technology level. Just looking at it I see no advantage to getting the Reinforced Kallaxian Cladding vs the Duranium Structural Lacing. Both have same CP, Cost, upkeep, mass, and armor rating. Both offer +2 evade and +1stealth. However the Duranium Structural Lacing also adds +4 damage and +1 Hypersonic attack bonus.

So, Heavy Fighters would most likely be larger, more hp forms of the fighters. Heavy Transports similar?
Very interested to hear where these ships will be on the tech tree!

I have a dumb question. Why/how would armor give you a damage (ie: offensive) bonus?

If armor is built in the right way, you can get in close while it deflects enemy fire. That and any sensor modules built into the hull will assist in more accurate attacks, allowing for more damage with the same attacks.

I have a dumb question. Why/how would armor give you a damage (ie: offensive) bonus? Cladding and Barriers provide lower overall protection and more flexibility in deployment. Thus, they give the Ship's designer more capabilities to extend the offensive abilities of the craft. In this case, Duranium structural lacing is allows for hypersonic weapons to be mounted and fired in a way that increases the accuracy of the attack.

They're being added in a new section of the tech tree which now extends to Ship Construction 14 and a new side branch, Orbital Shipyards. I played for about 6 hours yesterday and I'm reworking the Heavy Fighter. It doesn't make sense as a Fighter because the majority of it's weapon systems are 2AP. I'm in the process of refining it as a "Strike Cruiser" instead of a Heavy Fighter. Will require a lot of additional testing, but I think it is better this way.

Will Orbital Shipyards be more advanced Factories that give CP bonuses only when making Ships? And will the Strike Cruisers have 4MP Reactors?

Strike Cruisers are armed with 2AP weapons, so I ended up making them Cruisers not Fighters -- so 3MP Reactors.

Under which research branches do I need to go to find these new Stock Ships? Two techs, two ship hull types. No canned ships yet, collecting designs from expert players first

Thanks Cory. I think it is important to let users know where to find these new gizmos in the tech tree.
