Hello there fellow Star Traders, I've been playing this game on and off for a year or more and it was probably only 4 months ago that I really started to grasp the game and found it incredibly enjoyable. I'm really struggling on Insane, I just can't seem to live after the starting grind which is rather rewarding when you start making money I end up getting stuck around the top left of the Quadrant with minimal money and contracts, having to venture out into deep space where I managed to run into Aliens/Angry Pirates every time and am I quickly dispatched. This is playing the Smuggler class with the starting ship Aperio Caliga simply for the Water-Fuel Tank Upgrade. I have read as many guide as I possibly can but I always seem to die around level 8ish about the time I start making money Anyone got any winning class/ship/faction formulas? How long are you Insane players lasting for? Should I just stick to Hard? I would really love to survive at the Creators preferred difficulty and sorry if this get's asked a lot I did a quick search but I've read most of what came up with still no luck I should probably mention I don't have everything unlocked there is still a starting ship I need and I haven't got the spy/zealot unlocked yet. Thanks, Happy Trading!

I created this thread about getting a Military Officer up and running on insane. The basics of it can be applied to just about any captain type though. Biggest thing is it exploits a short yet lucrative trade set that keeps you in green space and is a very short hop. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/4269/survival-glory

I think I'll lower the difficulty and play all the classes. Thank you for the guide I think this will help me nicely when I return to Insane. On an unrelated note I just captured and destroyed my first ever space hive as a level 1 pirate on hard, every other time I've ran into a space hive they get away. I usually make an extra effort to have + rep with all factions should I be doing this or is it better to choose a faction or 3 and stick with them and screw the rest? Thanks again

Check out this thread put together by johndramey and read all the different threads he's provided links for there. It will give you a huge wealth of information and ideas about the game, its mechanics and playing styles. startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/4267/consolidated-list-information-playersGenerally early game using the technique I outlined in my guide I try keeping the Clans all friendly and don't worry to much about rep with the syndicates. With careful watching of politics changing even seriously bad rep with a faction into positive rep is very easy, but it can be difficult to maintain positive rep with all factions so generally I'll write off one or two factions fairly early and they will be the bad guys I do nasty things to.

Derp, I blew right past the sticky threads I feel like a fool. , that really is a wealth of information and I'll be sure to favorite at start reading. The more I learn the crazier this game gets. It has to be one of the most enjoyable games I've played in a good few years. Thanks for the friendly advice, the Quadrant will be mine

Usually I befriend all but one of the groups, that way I can spy and blockade their planets and kill any ships I want to of theirs. Though occasionally one of my allies gets an alliance with steel song so I have to stop firing at ships.

I heard a rumor on Corelloth that a cat was trolling Steel Song planets looking for his fabled cruiser. Seriously though spacemonkey you can do just about anything in this game, it's awesome. I would say learn the game on challenging, play the game on demanding, and play yourself above. Hint for most difficulties-when you die it's usually cause you made a mistake, but what was it....

Usually on impossible difficulty my mistake is choosing impossible difficulty. Usually on insane difficulty my mistake is impatience with getting money (I end up attacking aliens before I should).
