Gah! I just got settled in the 99 world Rinze map on normal. Restarted 8 or 10 games until I got decent rolls on the Primes. 21 turns into it I get a Trade Embargo. Now I don't know if I should restart this one or not...
Anyone else have crap like that happen? Feel free to vent about it here.

Trade embargo does very little during the early game. You and the "star traders" have few ships to repair or refuel. And based on your turns in play it is highly unlikely that you have any TP generation aside from the DeValtos bonus.
I tend to get an embargo in the first 30 turns of play on hard, and seeing as I do not generally use DeValtos I ignore the embargo until I have a few exchanges and more than the starting ships.
During the early stages of the game a trade embargo is practically meaningless. The same can be said about Spy Battles BTW. If you don't have any exchanges or TP being generated the negatives to your income are meaningless, as it only affects your income from TP and not idle cp or minerals.
Honestly even if you are using DeValtos you can ignore early trade embargoes until you have a larger colony base and some exchanges built. Especially on normal difficulty.
edit: and yes these things happen to meall the time. ... More often than not by turn 50 i have 3 negative treaties in effect. Normally 1 embargo and 2 spy battles... though occasionally Ill get a trade war or solar war instead of a second spy battle. Add to that the fact that I work my butt off to ensure all of my colobies have a positive income or at least a balanced income.. these things are mostly ignorable, even in later turns (500-1500).

I know, I just laugh at these factions- unknown space, aliens lurking, but hey, let's rekindle am old fridge, who cares if it means we all die?
EDIT: 'am old fridge'? I'm not even going to fix it. Meant to say 'an old grudge'. Go proofreading!!

Even since I play with the colonies count between the factions balanced, I get a lot less of these nasty politics. It is easier now when you can choose the 3 clans/houses.

Subsidize treaties to end the negative political climate. Improve your Palaces to generate more EP.

I do remember the same thing somewhere. I tried it in few hard difficulty now. If you keep all the system count for all 3 factions the same, you have a much better time. Nasty politics are particular nasty in the earlier part of the game when you don't have much in the treasury, all systems are crying for some kind of expansion, you need to build the fleet up before the xenos come knocking, etc. Once you are strong enough, they are not as nasty. In a recent game I was in minus treasury when I was hunting down the last xeno group. I could not build new ships but then I have more than enough to start with. Only limited Colony Ships available required a bit of planning as to where I can put the support bases as I advanced deep into the xeno territory.
