For the 100X100 rim map, you normally start smack in the middle with the highest concentration of colonies. While this may seem nice on the surface, xenos always start at the corners, meaning all 3 xenos will eventually come at you in the 3 different directions simultaneously. I normally spend about 10-20 turns moving my colony ships to the very bottom or top, so as not to attract attention and to prevent a 3 vs 1 conflict.
