It never hurts to ask...
I've been playing with Kincaid recently and thinking through his Live by the Blade talent. I've got one point in it but every time I invest more points I can't justify taking the road to try to get to +2 MP at level 4. These are just some of my thoughts as I've processed this.
I know each talent comes along with a bonus aside from the +MP but I wanted to really focus on what the cost was to get +MP in terms of SP and talent point focus. In the table below the format is each hero's cost in SP for the lowest talent of each +MP level. In parentheses, I've included the lowest talent point level for each level of +MP just to get a sense for how much focus is needed.
The first thing I noticed when I put this together was how comparable across characters this really was. Digging into almost every aspect you can really see how much thought has been put into balance for this game from top to bottom. Great job!
I absolutely love how quickly Vincent goes up in levels for +MP. Regardless of his build (melee, AoE spells, curse, or mixed) he needs to close the distance and adjust his angles. Vraes is also a beast when he gets fast regardless of the rest of his build. I have a small bet with myself that Selen will win the attached poll hands down. She gets fast and adds crit chance and stealth. It's the perfect and defining talent for her!
When I start to compare Kincaid's Live by the Blade to these other talents, it seems very lackluster. SP cost and talent focus is relatively comparable (but a little on the high side) but if I'm just looking at this chart, my first thought is that Kincaid probably has bonuses that are similar in utility to Selen's. At the three levels we're comparing here, we're looking at +2, +9, and +18 Armor compared to +2% crit +2 stealth, +4% crit +4 stealth, and +8% crit +8 stealth.
Now I'm guessing that Kincaid would be seriously overpowered if he could get more than +3 MP and if he had more +dodge talents it would get ridiculous. But I'm just spitballing here. I know there are other balancing considerations like AP used and both Cory Trese and fallen have chastised us (the players) recently for comparing talents too directly, but I just had to comment on it.
I do love boosting armor and I wouldn't know what to add to the talent or replace it with. Has anyone used high level LbtB effectively? Is this level of increase armor really comparable over the long haul to increased crit % or dodge?
Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Am I way off base?
