I saw this feature in Galactic civilisations, version 1.13 (GalCiv is a close sibling of Master of Orion, just simpler). But this feature of multiplayer was shut down in next versions, because after you finished your turn, you had to wait until your opponents all play. That could vary from minutes to whole days... And galciv players did not like it.

It isn't something we're considering at this point.

Lets say for example, we created a game based on ST 4X where everyone controlled one faction in very large map. You would give orders to your units and colonies once per day. If the server didn't receive your turn, it would do something fairly smart on your behalf (defend itself, spend your CP on projects, etc.) What if paying players could create games with different turn rates? Like create a every 2 days, or once a week game? Once in a week? That game would last an eternity! Considering that even after 100 turns pretty much nothing is going on,... (100 turns would be 700 days, which is almost 2 years) Sorry if it wasn't clear. A "game based on ST 4X" would have a different kind of "size of turn" so that daily or weekly turns would make sense for the pace of play. But yes, the games would stretch out over months.

This is starting to sound more interesting. A whole day for players to make a choice, if not the system selects the best one available. What would be the minimum number of players needed to be able to fund the servers?

Well, I can't speak too much around it, because recently I have never been able to play an mmo game longer than for 2 weeks.

Just to be clear -- we would NOT simply make 4X a turn-a-day game.
That seemed like a good conceptual example of daily strategy game.
Any type of turn-a-day game would have to be fully designed from the start for turn a day.

I have played games like this before. Although they were usually tick based games.
I have an Idea. how about an augmented reality game based in the CK world? (I can dream of electric sheep)

As for the monetization, I am not personally sure about the subscription fee thing, but would play a free version or a pay once sort of thing. (And, heck, probably would pay a subscription)
The problem I see with a subscription model is that of you are only playing once a day for a limited time. When I buy 4X etc I know that I can sit down and play for 10 hours straight if I feel like it.
Depending on the type of game, subscribing players could have multiple games active, whereas free players would be restricted to only one game at a time.

I like pay for private server where the Host / GM player would be able to tweak a bunch of options to their liking both before and during game.
Oh and something else I wanted to bring up. What is nice about tick based games is you can have ticks run at different rates during the week and the weekend and occasionally do double speed days for a holiday or something.

I voted I hate you because it would result in the last vestiges of my free time disappearing! Concept great .. private our public games. Turn duration and game limitations should be options. Elite only but not monthly subscriptions. There would also need to be password options for games so you can restrict it to your friends. St4x would lend itself to multiplayer turn play really nicely. Becomes like the old game vga planets, which was awesome

Basically, you're asking if we'd be interested in an async style multiplayer game, correct?
Absolutely YES!
Paying a monthly subscription might be a turn off to people who are unfamiliar with your games, but if you included two separate servers you might be able to get away from that. Maybe a simple, limited version that players can use for free and an "elite" server for paying players that allows more customization/more tech/etc?
I love PBEM and other async styled games, so you have my vote. I'd recommend giving the players some options for turn limits though, everything from minutes to days, so players can play what amount to real time games if they want and also potentially stretch out turns to 3 days if they want.
*edit* Ah, I see, server side processing. Interesting idea. I'd still play it!

Like all of our games, we'd definitely support a Free and Paid version so you could try it out before you buy it. Also, you'd also be able to setup in your game the "tick speed" as contributor put it. Daily, hourly, weekly -- it would be something you'd configure as you created a game and found players to join up.
