NM is only sweet at level 1. Then you only waste talents on it, that you could spend on Phalanx Shield or Burst of Speed. In my current (hard) group, I've started off by building solid offensive attribute base and solid defensive talents. Worked quite well. I agree if you're going talents for defense, but it-nm still makes sense if you're going talents for accuracy, with melee D thrown in, 2h or dual wield especially...

NM is only sweet at level 1. Then you only waste talents on it, that you could spend on Phalanx Shield or Burst of Speed. In my current (hard) group, I've started off by building solid offensive attribute base and solid defensive talents. Worked quite well. PS1 and BoS1 are also most efficient at level 1, at the end of maxing NM, I'll have dropped a few points elsewhere and I'll have (IIRC) +25 offense and +18 defense, with only 5 of the (weak) offensive dice being cursable. The equivalent of having a +7.8 accuracy and parry weapon always in hand, no matter what weapon it is or the curses stacked on you, uncursed you get +9.6 accuracy. True it doesn't do much else, but that's pretty darn useful IMO. How many talent points are going to spend elsewhere to get the same thing? How much for that level of melee defense? True, it is a bit of apples and oranges because there are other benefits to building other talents, but it gets me where I'm going. Amusing bit, if something happens to my KKFT party, the next one up is VVKS...

Don't forget the extra couple points of parry at high levels of BoS to go with its high mp and dodge. If I'm going that route I find BoS 9 optimal point for point - as a 2h or dual wield defense along with ssk since phalanx can't be used in those cases. NM is good at 1 and then again when extra acc is added, it's the relative dry spell between those optimal levels I have a hard time justifying - an either toe in or wade waiste+ deep into, not an ankle-thigh deep plunge for me.

Each point in NM2+ worth same as points in the relevant weapon skills. And skills are cheaper than talents. that's what I mean by "waste of talent points". It's sweet to have that option, but only after exhaustion of all other venues of increasing weapon proficiency.

Okay, time to agree to disagree.
