You're not getting the Bonus Rep, Morale, Crew XP, Faction Rep, etc?
I mean, I can see clearly in the player stats that positive encounters (in Patrol and elsewhere) are working great.
Anyway, depends on the build and the play style I suppose. We'll keep working on it.

None of this is getting reported to the player when you draw a positive card (that isn't mission accomplished) when patrolling, so, no I am not seeing this. Which doesn't mean that it isn't happening, just that I couldn't tell.

Yes.

OK, that's good. Sounds like things are working, you're probably getting the rewards the Captain is built for and we'll just keep working on it. But this is currently, and will probably remain, one of the more effective balanced leveling action sets.

I still have utterly no clue as to how anything I could change in my captain's build would have any effect whatsoever on whether I get rep, XP and morale gains when I acknowledge a friendly merchant. If this is something I am already supposed to understand, then something has gone wrong in the education process.

A potential solution to the problem grävling describes would be for the game to provide more information about the consequences of patroling/combat Cory Trese mentioned "Bonus Rep, Morale, Crew XP, Faction Rep". For example, ship combat summary screen could provide info about crew morale, crew XP and other consequences of 'combat'. ('combat' include entering the combat screen and retreating/acknowledging.) I've only done a little bit of patrolling. In my small sample, my high-charisma, merchant captain retreats from patrol/ship-combat with faction-friendly ships and rarely/never gets rep penalties.

Yes, we continue to work to improve the UI.

So Rep Loss/Gain was already being displayed correctly.
Today I added Experience Loss/Gain displays to Combat Draw, Victory and Defeat.
We'll keep working on this!

Patrol System is now granting specific bonuses before combat starts when the encounter type should call for it.
For example, Hostile Pirates now generate +Reputation with Planet owner before combat starts.

Something very important is not being communicated, then, because where I stand, there seems to be nothing great at all possible to get with these encounters. I am a military officer patrolling over the home world. I draw the 'encounter a merchant' card, and drop into the start of ship combat. What can I do? Well, I can violate all my principles and attack the merchant. My house now thinks, rightly, that I am a traitor. I lose rep. This is clearly a bad idea. Or I can retreat/acknowledge the merchant. This is better than killing him, but doesn't yield me any positive result. What great stuff are you getting out of an encounter like this, and how can I get some too? Please explain. I think perhaps us old timers are too used to things in STRPG where every operation yields results. I think the point of the card games to have more varied results. Sometimes you get something good, sometimes bad, sometimes nothing but wasted time & fuel.

Thanks for the part explanations, Cory Trese. I've been thinking about your descriptions. Initially, I was confused why when Patroling and getting a Military encounter, that I get -Rep when leaving. But I noticed on another character that has higher Military Rank, doing the same doesn't give -Rep. When a Military vessel spots you hovering around orbit... - If you are well-known, then you're probably just going about your rightful business.
- If you are just some random schmoe, then you're probably "loitering" or up to some other shady things.
So I guess things are working as intended on the backend. As with STRPG, it's sometimes hard for people (especially newbies to a profession) to realize what's going on. Looking forward to UI updates.

athios - if you really want it good, then snag the Stiff Salute Talent and gain Rep on meeting those Military Officers.
