Right now the game makes no distinction between those crew you found on your ship the very first time you stepped aboard as captain, already hired, and those you immediately hired from the Spice Hall to fill any gaps you found. But what I use the sort-by-tenure function, mostly, is for 'find me the new hires' and it is a bit annoying that it does not work for this case. If your crew are low level, and your ship is a mite over-powered for them, you often add a few warm (mostly crewdog) bodies with the intention of firing them when you reach a planet where you can hire mechanics (if you couldn't hire any of these at your start world) -- or when everybody has advanced so much that you no longer need them in order to stop making understaffed saving throws. It's time invest in some diplomats, exo-scouts, or other useful sorts who don't contribute to the day-to-day running of the ship.
Sometimes, to be sure, you get an amazing hire that way whom you don't want to get rid of, but most of the time, when it comes time to pitch crew to make room for different crew, these are the ones you want to show the airlock. Definitely the ones you want to look at first. So can you artificially age the crew that the game starts with -- I think one day would be enough -- so that sort by tenure will spit these first-hired crew out in one chunk, not mixed up with your initial allotment?

Can't you just scroll to the bottom? The recent hires are more likely to be low level anyway.

I want fallen to change things so that scrolling to the bottom will find these people. They aren't being found now. My new hires from the planet where I started are in no way lower in experience than the ones already hired and on the ship. They are all level 1 sorts. So the new hires just show up randomly in the crew list. I have to scroll through every single crewdog to find the new crewdogs I hire, for instance.

This is a problem mostly coming up at the beginning of the game. Yes, immediately after hiring them, they show up at the bottom of the list, but after flying around a bit and getting XP, they get jumbled up with the original starting crew.
Right now, I typically manually rename my disposable crew as "Fire Me" before they get lost in the mix, but there should be a better way.

Thanks for the feedback. The current sorting is by level, and I can look at adding a sort-by-tenure feature.

We have a sort by Tenure Feature. The problem is that it doesn't recognise the people you hire on day 1 as any newer than the people you start out with on day 1. I'm renaming mine as well ....
As a default, sort by job is what I want. Filter-on-levelling/Sort-by-job is what I do almost every single time I bring up the crew list. If I am not interested in this, then it's mostly because I just read that somebody's trait was discovered in the log, and I want to find that exact person (and usually boot him or her off the ship for having a really nasty trait). Then I want sort alphabetically, so I can find the person faster.

You mean the sort by tenure button in the crew list does nothing?

Totally turned around, but glad to see that it is already a feature. Not sure why we have this thread since its already a sort option.

You gotta smile at some of the things that alpha throws up!! Amazing thing, as grävling said a few posts in, the feature doesn't work. So, "Sort by Tenure doesn't work" would have reduced a lot of confusion I think! Thanks grävling, fixed for next!

Totally turned around, but glad to see that it is already a feature. Not sure why we have this thread since its already a sort option. Because it doesn't work for a very important case. The crew that come with your ship, that you did not hire personally have the same tenure as those you immediately got at the spice hall your first day as captain. They all have tenure of since the same day, the first day of the game. But I especially want a way to tell these new hires from the ones that the ship started with. So I want the crew that the game starts with to be given a tenure that is older than the ones you hire on day 1, so sort by tenure will work in this case.

Ah, I thought it only didn't work for the start case. I wasn't aware that it didn't work _at all_. Sorry for the confusion.

Ah, I thought it only didn't work for the start case. I wasn't aware that it didn't work _at all_. Sorry for the confusion. Just glad we could get it fixed. By the time you arrive at the Spice Hall, the turn has unavoidably increased beyond the hire date for your starting crew. Sort by Tenure now does by-date-of-hire and then by XP if there are matches.
