There are several different types of Contracts in Star Traders, each with advantages and disadvantages. Which one do you prefer? are you selective or will your Captain take whatever work is available?
Do you tend to take advantage of a single source of Contracts like selecting Spice Hall, Palace, Military Base? Or do you take any job your Crew will sign on for?

Since I'm usually playing on Impossible, I tend to use Surrender a lot.
My favorite Contract types kinda depends on my ship and officers, based on their ability to pass Surrender tests without loss.

My favorite is the contract to Blockade the Telemarketers World and jam their signals so they can't annoy the whole galaxy. Unfortunately I never get that one either.

Is there a contract for Obitally bombarding Xeen Prime for weeks on end? If so, THAT would be my favorite mission.

Usually I am selective in my contracts, depending on my profession and the character's individual RP. I like bounty hunters and captains built for bounty hunting. As such, my favorite contracts are capture missions. They are usually very difficult to complete and make my bounty hunters feel like REAL bounty hunters... not dispensing Shalun justice the easy way by blowing them to smithereens, but sending them in chains back to a court of law to face the music for their offenses.
I like delivering passengers, too... you bump into some pretty hairy bounty hunters along the way. The thrill of trying to duck or battle through faction duelists and surly military officers while getting your human cargo to their destination in one piece can be quite the challenge.
Sometimes I'll stack up message courier missions so I don't have to worry about being boarded, if I am running low on cash after a new ship purchase or a flurry of upgrades, and have to traverse through hostile space to get back to friendly sectors. But if my hold is brimming with weaponry and electronics anyway, that's kind of a moot point.
Surveillance is fun, too. Quite tense lurking about a sector, gathering information and hoping to the Maker a fleet of warships don't show up on a house-cleaning operation. I really haven't done much blockading because I haven't built a character yet who would be any good at it.
I usually take my contracts from the Spice Hall... dunno why. My characters tend to be nefarious types, more comfortable around dancing girls and bottles of vudka than surrounded by dignitaries and honor guards.
I think the game could use some new contracts, maybe for high-level or high-rep captains. I've certainly seen some excellent suggestions around the forums over the past year.

I've often been bemused that passenger contracts involving the delivery of "allies" to another planet, don't earn you reputation with both sides.
If we can have multi-phase contracts, capture contracts should make you deliver the criminals back to the origin of the contract, with corresponding increase in pay due to the doubling of travel time.
I don't like passenger contracts as much as messages and packages, because you end up being "betrayed" quite often. You only lose reputation but not military rank though, so that's not too terrible.

I've noticed I've been getting more credits for passenger and delivery contracts than bounty contracts. Is this a coincidence?

I've noticed I've been getting more credits for passenger and delivery contracts than bounty contracts. Is this a coincidence? Same here. Even having Death Warrants doesn't make my bounty contracts pay a lot. I reckon destroy contracts should pay 50% more than a delivery, and capture contracts 100% more than a delivery. Then apply the Death Warrant bonus on top of that.

I'll look into it -- can be hard to measure apples to apples on this type of issue because it is so dependent on Faction, Faction target, upgrades, Officers, Profession, etc. I'll take a look to see if there is anything we can do to improve (there always is!)

Then apply the Death Warrant bonus on top of that. Ehh, don't know about tha one. Each contract has its own difficulties. Delivery & passenger - increased chance of hostility for eemy and failure if surrender Bounty - you have to fight and defeat enemy ship, sometimes hostile, sometimes a retreater. You may also have to not breach the hull Surveillance and Blockade - you have to spy or blockade on a sector for weeks. This becomes very challening without suffiecint skills. Can cause higher rep loss than other contracts Contract pay should be based on importance. A delivery of a minor message or the execution of an independent pirate that broke an embargo once or twice I wouldn't expect to pay all that much. Transportation of passengers that are wanted for messing with the credit banking system (hence increase signature/hostility) or assasination of an alien, that should pay a lot. Maybe you can rank each contract in. Terms of difficulty, and higher number = higher importance and increased difficulty but also increased rep gain/credits.

starfixer -- couldn't have put it better myself! hard to measure apples to apples because there are so many factors in terms of distance, conflict, rumor, contract target, faction, on and on. I'll still look, maybe something is out of balance ... but as you said, it should be based on importance and not strictly predictable just based on type.
