Unfortunately ST RPG is based on the classic Space Trader type game. This Deep Sea Traders looks similar, but there are enough differences to show that it is more fitting with the style of ST than ST itself. If they had utilized some of the ST assets (logo, graphical elements, names, etc), then there would be a stronger case to argue, but without actually trying the game out, it's going to be very difficult to argue theft of intellectual property. I'm guessing that the game wont be nearly as fleshed out as ST RPG is - and will be a pitiful excuse of an abacus game compared to ST2 In the meantime, I've sent our agent out to get them to sign a non-compete

The backstory sounds a lot like CK, as well. Doomed planet, human survivors…

Ah, thanks for pointing that out. I've never played any of those older 'ancestor' games, so not clue what they are like. Oh slayernz, you and your cat pic wormhole. Are there no bounds to this awesomeness?

Actually the age of this style of game is so old that there is probably not a lot of leg room for anyone to stand on.... All games can be somewhat different. But these types of computer games have Been around since the early 70's. If similar but different weren't allowed then there would be no trese brothers or Kalypso (patriarch and port royale series) Tradewars2002 is probably the oldest 1980's bbs door game en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trade_Wars Uncharted waters 1992. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncharted_Waters

We're certainly not hunting down or attacking other indie devs who are also inspired by these older ancestor games. Enjoy!

I suppose there are few ways of determining the origin of the game. I might be able to research the game and see if the game mechanics show if it is a rip off or not.

Nah, spend your time enjoying TB games rather than researching Deep Sea Traders. Unless you could get to source-code level, similar concepts have been around for decades. Also, on the surface, the TB game is very similar to a lot of other trader games that came before it. I know because I played a whole heap of them. It's when you start really digging into the game do you spot the differences/improvements, but it's a well established and cultivated genre. So in summary, Research Cat says - "Reeeelax", "Go hunt Steel Song", and "Why would they have SAILS on a sub?!?"

You are right about one thing, I absolutely despise steel song now. They took over 70 records from me and for that act all of them will die.

Keep that hatred burning for more than 3 years ... it's so satisfying. And good for your health! I know I know ... this isn't a nasty protracted revenge type pic, but I couldn't resist
