I was flying from Tucanae-Javat Mining and headed to Ogvidisso-B on a mission of vital importance. It was 22AU away, and I had 32 weeks to complete the contract. No sweat I thought. I'll just slap the ship into auto-pilot and we'll get there with plenty of time to spare. Alas, Auto-pilot was going for the most fuel-efficient path, and made me late by almost a month. My employer wasn't impressed! So - enhancement request: Offer two options for auto-pilot 1) Fuel-efficient path. That's the current implementation of auto pilot. That means focus on green squares, skirt around planets where possible. 2) Time-efficient (direct) path. Gets you to your destination in the quickest time a 3rd option ... Friendly-territory path. Gets you to your destination by navigating through factions that have a positive reputation with you. 4) ... and I'm just going silly here, because I really just want #2 implemented .... but we're going the whole hog here ... 4. 4 is deep stealth mode. You take twice as long to get from A to B, but you get 50% less encounters

Yup, your father was a heavily decorated, well respected captain, with a reputation of being strong, fair, and honest. In fact, he had just been assigned his first undercover mission, where he was to infiltrate a spice manufacturing facility on the planet of ________ (Redacted) , and identify the key individuals that were causing a flood of illicit spice onto the market.
He was sent out with a hand-picked crew, his trusted first mate and a pilot officer. The ship and the captain are currently officially listed as MIA, although according to the hall of records, the last captain's logs were as follows:
32.37AE. I'm a week away from my rendezvous with the spice manufacturers. This is my first undercover mission and I am conscious of the fact that I have normally avoided spice conumption as it can clearly degrade my performance. Nonetheless, I've studied the effects of Spice, and have cautiously tested some diluted product in order to gain first-hand experience. My pilot Officer, Ima. Ms Stoner, said she has a special pill that stops spice from being adictive. I've started taking thatin preparation. She's a brilliant pilot so I have no doubt she knows what she's talking about.
32.38AE. First meetings have gone well. The manufacturers have accepted my cover story, and have invited me onto their station to test the locally manufacturered product. Ima, err Ms Stoner has asked to come along, and I am appreciative of Ima's support.
32.38AE Supplemental. That spice stuff is pretty damned powerful! I took two more of Ima's tablet/pills to counter the effects. I don't know how Ms Stoner does it. She ploughed into the spice, impressing all of the manufacturers and increasing their confidence of us and our coverstory. I will be submitting a recommendation that Ms Stoner, Ima, receive a commendation after this mission.
32.39AE. Negotiationz has gone well. I've mets the farmers and theys shown me their growing processs. It seems sooo easy. Did you know Ima's a cat? At least that's the DNA she had spliced into hers apppparently. Makes her reflexes soooooo fast. Spice is pretty damned good. Cats are cute. Anyone who hates cats should be fed to a Steel Song spicer.
32.40AE. That pill/tablet thingy that Ima's been feeeding me. It's for catnip addiction! I can't believe that Ima Stoner thought it would stop spice addiction. Did you know pilots take spice to help them fly good? I did not know! I also found out that a straight line is actually a circle with an infinite radius. Mind. Blown.
32.44AE. Thort I'd check in. Crew gone native. Pilot officer the only one not affected to this spice, glorious spice. Might try my hand at growing some. Spice that is. Not hands. Growing hands! That's some mad crap right there! Started seeing Ima and decided that it was against some policy or other. So I hereby resign my commission.
32.47AE. Oh - is this thing still turned on? I'm burying the ship in some shhhhhhhhhhhh secret caves. It's pretty crappy - no Jango, so won't be missed. Gonna grow me some spice. It's my duty as adding more supply will drop the prices in the market. I'm helping the quadrant!

I have a theory. Here's the Aeternum Vale ship: Hull 11 Armor 5 Engines 11 Sails 22 Crew 40 Cargo 28 Guns 17 Torpedoes 7 Agility Slow Speed Fast Instead of shoring up its weaknesses, why don't I just play to its extreme strengths? 1: Sails and Torps FTW 2: Screw boarding as I don't have the engines to really close the distance. I'd be better off with more guns to take advantage of that crew count 3: I have a fairly high hull and some solid armor, but to keep myself from eating enemy guns all day I should invest in additional armor. If I can get +6 or more Armor, I have a good defense against gun and ram attacks according to the help section. 4: It may not be a bad idea to get an Impact Generator to prevent getting rammed to death. Will test and report over the next few days! You know, if I found that ship during an encounter, I'd throw it back and say it was too little. Catch and release I say. There are some things worth persevering with, and others that you would just scratch your head and say "Only Steel Song would like this". That's the Aeternum Vale. It may be efficient in traveling, but it's got crap-all hull capacity. So it's pretty useless as a freighter, a smuggler, and an anythinger. You can look at the torps and think "cool, that's what I'll use", but the EHr is pretty crap, and torps won't keep your enemy from closing range. To make this ship worthwhile, you'll need: +6 engines cargo - maybe a weapons, electronics, and/or water-fuel hold. Then you'd specialize in carrying that restricted cargo.

I love the Aperio because of the WF tank. I still go out in Crazy with the "be nice to everyone" mentality because it isn't fast enough to get away from anything, BUT with the WF tank and a large cargo hold, you are able to take advantage of the shortages that almost always crop up within the first hundred or so turns.
Get lots of money quickly. Upgrade engines to 14 with Ancient reactors, and continually feed your Pilot skill. Oh, and get yourself a pilot officer too! Even if you aren't going to keep the pilot officer, finding one early will help. Keep pumping up your pilot skill.

Yup, if you have major damage, land in a wild zone, and you get the option to do some repairs ... very useful. Just consumes time and stuffs

Anyone try this new Starwars Battlefront beta? Funny we almost tried to call Battleforce Battlefront. That would have been an unmitigated disaster =) I hvaen't tried the beta, but watched a lot of gameplay vids and it made me drool. It is something that made every single starwars-related nerve in me quiver. Templar Battlefront - yeah I think that wouldn't have gone down well ... I don't know if DICE will screw things up - they have gotten a lot right in Battlefield. Yes, I think that it will definitely be focusing on the multi-player aspect and not a single-player campaign, but the last time Battlefield had a good single player campaign was BF 1942. Man, that was a great game, esp the DICE mods

This morning I sat down for a few minutes of Terraria.... big mistake... because i found the 3rd Heart statue I needed to implement my Expert Mode Moon Lord murder plan. It worked. ONe dead Expert moon lord later, I got a sword that ... meows. I kid you not. It throws Cats at people @slayerz would probably love it. I would like a goat sword, for reasons explained in Rabid Rabbit. rabid Expert Mode Moon Lord?!? I haven't seen him. I gotta go find out now what I need to do to get the cat-throwing sword My character is mostly good - but not perfect. a Cat-throwing sword will change that for sure.

For officers - me as a gun bunny will always seek out: the Mechanic Officer, for constant help repairing the ship sails when they get damaged. Carry crystals and metal so that your mechanic can be more effective.
the Pilot Officer, for boosting your skills at flying and encounters and combat and landing and all good things. Carry Spice to keep pilots very effective
the Political Officer, for keeping you abreast of trade embargoes and spy wars.

My Mk3 is parked at Devaltos Prime right now, along with the Mk1. However, stupid Planet has some civil unrest, causing access to the military base to be blocked. This would NOT happen on Cadar! Cadar know how to keep the populous in line!

No, in general terms, keeping the same officer will yield very minimal differences to swapping the officer for a new one of the same class on a regular basis. Okay, there IS a slight difference, but you're talking about less than the width of a cats whisker. For the record, don't tug on cat whiskers...

Even the Javat Cutter (rank ship) is a pretty darned good cheap gun-bunny ship.
With the ship designer tool though, the possibilities are endless... and your dream ship is but a few clicks away. Until you've built it and realize it's lacking something, then you go and create a Mk2 version. Then you find the Mk2 version needed adjustments so created a Mk3 version. Then you find that the Mk3 version took it too far and make a Mk4 version based closely on the Mk2 version ... <sigh>.

I thought it was obvious that you could control the Major ... I didn't think you had to have it spelt out in a very blunt and obvious manner. That's just me though.
