While I am sure that much mocking from us TA rookies is forthcoming, I do hope everyone who started will finish. Perhaps a late penalty of 5 or 10 points will be appropriate, or another amount. That can be up for discussion. We should have plenty of time to think about it waiting for old folk veteran players finish. I don't think a penalty is needed, but they better return covered in xeno blood boasting 5 digit kill numbers or we won't be impressed much. Btw, I already think old folk in mobility scooters are dangerous, can you imagine the carnage if they had Leviathan suits?

Hey, great work on Age of Pirates!
Here's a question... Will there be character portraits with more piratey looks? I like the current ones, but how can I have an infamous Captain Blackbeard? Or yellow/red/green/purple for that matter?

Having discovered you and your games only recently, I missed the Kickstarter for Heroes of Steel. I was just reading through it because I wondered what this game was you kept mentioning. Now I'm really really curious what new engine you might be switching to.
Heroes of Steel looks like it'll raise the bar even higher and I'm amazed you put in so much work on Age of Pirates, still update the older games and somehow also work on a brand new game!

Should we extend the challenge?
I'm guessing more than a few of us have been engaging in some piracy this week...

The commissions do show coordinates *after* you signed them. It's awkward but doable to make a route by comparing the coordinates.

I have the Grappling hooks and Muskets combat upgrade.
Other upgrades: - Additional quarters interior upgrade - Advanced sail plan - Forecastle guns
Btw, I think it might indeed be connected to boarding, because at other times I suddenly lose all hull when boarding (made a different post about that, not realizing the connection). This might have been a different damage location but the same cause. Since making this post I've been blasting ships with 9 pounders and grape shot and haven't had the sudden loss of (nearly) all cannons.

Twice now I've been in combat, suffered almost no damage, reduced the enemy ship some, then decided to board and immediately got defeated because of my HULL being gone, despite the turn report saying I inflicted damage on the other ship and they missed. This time the enemy captain was the Kraken, so maybe it's a special case, but last time it was an ordinary capture commission. Turn 12: Everything's fine. Turn 13: Boarded... and I'm dead. If the enemy captain destroyed my boarding party, then it's incorrectly reported. If the report is correct, then how did I get killed? MY stats: Sailing 10, Commanding 13, Navigating 7, Fencing 7 Attachments:

Nice guide!
Here are some small tips to maximize profits:
- Look for letter, cargo or passenger commissions that have your next few ports as destination. Don't waste time on the ones that go to deep seas.
- Rations fill your cargo in multiples of 6, so always buy them up to 18, 24 or 30 to have more space for your real cargo.
- Getting shot up is expensive. Invest in Navigating to get away more easily.

While I'm clogging the board with posts, I might as well add this one: I'd love to see a detailed log of combat after the fight is done. Something like the text description for each turn, only with the damage points to each part of the ship added (since you don't have the main screen available anymore to track the changes). I understand you have the testing covered pretty well with simulations, but it would help us players track down potential bugs or at least understand what happened after we suddenly get a defeat screen.

I know I should be waiting for the manual to be updated, but I'm hoping for quick answers to these:
1) Are the attributes and and ability ratings combined in tests or is it just the ability ratings? Ex.: Is a sailing test done against Sailing + Dexterity or only against Sailing?
2) Do current sails and mast scores figure into how easy it is to advance/retreat in combat or is it only the captains' relative skills? Sometimes it seems a ship with 0 sails can still manage to escape from boarding range.

Like my previous wish list posts, this is about ease-of-use, especially when coming back to the game after interruptions.
I'd like to see a "Imprison captain" or "To the brig!" button added to the victory options and then have either that or the burn it button highlighted if there's an active commission that will be fulfilled by either option.
Note: Sometimes it seems like the "Burn it" button is highlighted (bold), but it isn't consistent with active commissions to burn the ship, so it's probably something else.

I can work with it, now I've figured it out. Certainly there are more important matters to attend to :-)

I'm playing at normal difficulty, sandbox pirate, Sailing 10, Commanding 12, Navigating 6, Fencing 6.
I use Long guns and Grape shot exclusively, they seem to do the most damage. It's usually after the combat I notice my cannons are gone, but I'll go and experiment some more... when I get enough cash to buy new cannons. Just got shot to pieces by a commission target I just couldn't manage to board successfully no matter how many times I tried.

I think I found the source of my confusion: On the bottom left there's a textual wind indicator that indicates the exact opposite of the arrow. In West and East Acadas, the wind always seems to be northwest as the arrow points FROM the northwest to the southeast. This should be indicated as (NW) at the bottom left, but it says (SE) instead.
