"There's been a major meeting of spice traders on (Insert Planet Name), they say the halls and market are overflowing!" Go to exchange. 5 spice. Overflowing... right... Note that the rumor says "halls and market", not "halls and exchange". The spice is actually flowing in the spice hall (you can see this if you go to the spice hall), but doesn't necessarily flow to the exchange too. Local markets are generally closed to off-worlders. Besides, the real purpose of this rumor is for the pilot officer. Oh, I already know it's not in the exchange, the help menu says that. But the wording makes it seem like it's like it's like that.

So, I asked a similar question about the independents on Star Traders, so I'm wondering, are there any differences for playing as buccaneers or corsairs on Age of Pirates?

Everyone IS an addict, but then there's those... those one addicts that take addiction to a whole new level.

News to me. I'm an independent from a poor world where no one had that. I'm lucky I have a ship.

So I was looking at that map by Fenikso (sorry if I spelt your name wrong!) And I found the Hyperion Demonic Nebulae... so, I went there, to check it out... And I'm confused. Nothing has happened or anything. So, what are they?
EDIT: While down there, I found the "Birth Space", in Steel Song territory. What's that too?

Let's face it Rychart are the wannabe try-hards of the Syndicates. They aren't in the league of Devaltos, and can't stand up to the military might of Cadar. Really, it'd be like talking about Sharks, Giant Squids ... and guppies. Yes, Rychart are guppies. Lots in number, but quite inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. They are still significantly better than Steel Song, but only because Rychart control the center of the quadrant. Steel Song, on the other hand, have the ass-end south-west (where nobody bothers going). All they have going for them is their fashion sense ... Thulun, while better than Steel Song, are too self-obsessed with the numbers of layers of lacy frills on their garments, and layers of aristocracy. Ships are made by serfs, who have been beaten into servitude and kept uneducated. As such, they don't necessarily fly very well, but have matching curtains and carpet. You know, I barely noticed while blockading the De Valtos Syndicate Core, they even HAD a southwest territory. I never went there, because I was too busy with the De Valtos... and because I never felt like it.

Like slayernz and his kill 1000 Steel Song ships, I'd say an award for killing 1000 De Valtos ships would satisfy me... I can't think of a name though...

Become that planet's security force. Defend against pirates and De Valtos. I don't like the De Valtos... boom. That basically it? There you go. Also take contracts for the people of that planet. Ignore the fact their warships will still attack you while you patrol.

I love the idea of an upgrade that just decreases all stats by 33%. People would love it Hmmm. The Pink Polka-dot Designer Hull Exterior Paint Job Upgrade: coats the exterior of your hull with highly-reflective nano-paint with an attractive pink polka-dot pattern. - Increased ship signature (it reflects all sorts of signals like a beacon saying "shoot me") - Increased chances of hostile encounters (they all hate you when they see you) - Increased chances of Alien encounters (the nano-paint is derived from illegal Narv chemical warfare tech) - Chance of spontaneous morale loss in deep space (your crew can't stand the shame) - Penalty to all landing operations (the nano-paint interferes with the ship's navigational equipment and makes engines behave erratically) - Increased fuel consumption in deep space (the Narv tech in the paint causes energy leakage) - Lower contract prices (nobody takes you seriously) - Higher buying prices and lower selling prices at the exchange (nobody takes you seriously) - Increased chances of ice collection accidents (crew get distracted by the utterly ugly ship exterior and make slip-ups) - Slight penalty to engine efficiency (the nano-paint off-gasses Narv chemical warfare agents that poison the core reactor in your engines) - Decreased chances of officers being available for hire (nobody wants to work for you) - Reduced number of recruitable crew in spice hall (nobody wants to work for you) - Increased prices of hiring officers (nobody wants to work for you unless the price is high enough) - Reduces officer bonuses by 15% (they are too ashamed to work efficiently) - Halves all reputation gains (nobody wants to be associated with you) - Doubles all reputation losses (the faster they dissociate themselves from you, the better they feel) - Doubles the negative effects of carrying Artifacts in deep space (bad interaction of paint with narv tech) - Reduces armor and hull by 15% (the paint weakens your hull as a side-effect) - Decreases torp/guns accuracy (the narv tech in the paint interferes with targeting systems and projectile trajectory as they leave the ship) - Increased prices of all repairs/upgrades at star dock (the mechanics see you as totally naïve and easy to swindle, plus they are too ashamed to work on the ship) Sounds like a completely raw deal, but there is ONE advantage: - Increased resistance to boarding (nobody wants to board you!!!!) Yes. Cory, do it. Add that. People would buy it. Using real money... probably.

Nothing wrong with warships! Simply observe the proper protocols of Loot, slave, and sell and you'll be just fine. Don't forget to offer everyone you meet the standard Cadar greeting. I'm assuming the standard Cadar greeting is something to do with torpedoes?

I just bought the ship designer, and just noticed (after looking at this thread) you can make a custom starting ship. So this is my first custom ship, it's a freighter for my merchant
ST-01 Freighter Hull 10 Armor 7 Engines 19 Sails 24 Crew 30 Hold 55 Guns 10 Torpedoes 5
Geared for carrying a lot of cargo while having a low hull and good engines/sail to escape pirates. Though, I'm not sure how well it'll work. Tried not spending too much on it. Um, also, crew isn't as important for a merchant, right? Wasn't it more for MOs and Explorers?
So looking at this design (haven't gotten around to using it yet) would it be a good ship?
EDIT So, soon after posting, I tried it. It's working nicely... It's my stupid mistakes screwing me up! (Example, I went to press the status button, wasn't paying attention, and I pressed surveillance. I encountered a bounty hunter who attacked me I surrendered, and he apparently hit me with a grenade.)

I came across an independent MO. Story-wise, was it just an officer for the specific planet I was patrolling around, or was that just some bug? Either way, I was an independent explorer, patrolling looking for an independent merchant to conscript some crew. It even said something about me committing crimes, and it was hostile.
