I'm curious about the balance of Holy retribution. The closest spell is Firebolt, which does more damage using less SP for 1 less AP. Why is HR so terrible?
For another comparison, Banishment, Firestorm and elemental Sundering all compare well, with Firestorm doing LOTS of damage for a heavy SP cost at 9 range 4AP, Banishment doing slightly less damage for about SP at 6 range but with a low AoE and ES doing lesser damage but for only 3AP.
It makes sense that Kyera is not a primary offensive caster and her spells aren't as good but Holy Retribution is just really bad...

It isn't terrible. First, Kyera is a support class and have her own utility outside whacking things with spells, second, Holy Retribution is a, well, Holy spell, very few things actually resist it, and third, if you really WANT to build her for spell casting, she gets enormous SP pool by the time you can throw HR left and right. And all that before balancing reasons of accuracy/damage.

Don't forget- some of the most RIDICULOUS enemies iin the entire game are weak against Holy Damage. Think Deathkin. Also everything in the CoD (well almost everything). Check out John Robinson's builds to see just how insane she can be as a pure spellcaster.

Carpet bombing. Just instead of bombs - an AoE holy blessing.

They have finished EP3 and are in the holding pen. Really worked out great. Just dying to move forward with them into EP4.

I'm engaged in a zero-player game (think progressquest, only with emphasis on language and subtle (or not so) references to about everything around), and one of my favorite quotes from it is something like Every time I'm using Banishment, I'm imagining healing rain pouring down on the unholy creatures.

Just my two cents here. I don't normally participate in these types of discussions because I'm a fairly casual player, but Kyera is in my primary group along with Vraes, KJ and Selen, so take that for what it's worth. I absolutely love Kyera, as an AoE spellcaster with Banishment (10). Buffed with Burning blades, +holy, +accuracy and +crit gear, she is a major death-dealer. I invested zero points in Holy Retribution so I could max EA and put substantial points in Warder's and Piety and I didn't care for the 3ap Banishment costs. She has a great +sp mantle from Storm Bastion, the killer staff from the Druid and is spec'd for sp pool. Now. In the final CoD fight without Selen and KJ and a dex based Unhittable Uber Tanky Outlander, it took a while to down the bad guy with Holy Retribution (4ap) and a hit and run pole arm attempt (2AP), but my group is bad ass...especially with EA/PS/Ash. My glass cannons rock the house.

All of the characters can fufill multiple roles in a party, based on how you build them (Attributes, Skills and Talents.)
It is absolutely working based on how people are playing the game. We're seeing lots of build variety, even among the high scoring players.

We're seeing lots of build variety, even among the high scoring players. Exactly. I prefer big splash damage from afar and a meat shield. Maybe it's a reflection of my WoW days. Also, zero high damage melee characters. I rely on mobility and positioning to win the field without an OT.

I Learned a really cool technique from one of contributor 's posts fighting in the City of the Dead. From time to time you will find scrolls that add things like +30 fire to all your attacks for just a few turns. In CoD Lurker loaded up several of these on a character then cast multiple "Incantation of Sustainment" scrolls on the character. This increased the number of rounds enough to finish the entire huge battle without the damage buffs running out. I was able to get Kyera's Banishment(10) to do 83-290 damage, it didn't miss, covers a whopping 25 tile cloud with a maximum of 16 targets. She had just a dash of 4% Critical which was allot of fun to see when it went off. One source of Incantation of Sustainment scrolls is at the Reis Lodge in the Braey's lands, they cost 250 gp. You also get them as treasure drops.

john Robinson Funny you brought that up, because after the final CoD fight I had several rounds left of all my buffs (five of them including +2 movement, +50 holy...). I had 30 individual scrolls and 25 sustainment tomes...so I just kept extending them until I reached the Braeys war camp in e4 It was pretty fun

I have to agree with CdrPlatypus ... Since I started Sacrifice Kyera, I couldn't see myself using her any other way. 168 million on normal, no deaths, and she is just awesome... Next level she goes to Sacrifice 4, then stops for a while... These Orcin are tough up here, so I need to keep her heals up... I do want to do something like Crimson Rain, but with Sacrifice I just don't know... Can you or someone post a standrd Sacrifice build, please?

I'm currently playing a team known as the "Holy Rollers". The purpose is to showcase Kyera as a damage caster. Here is a sneak peak. Currently in the City of the dead. Once finished with the Heart of Ember tower I will do a full write up on what worked, what didn't, and the usual leveling checklists for each character. Holy Retribution(10) is a heavy hitter at 61-190 Holy Damage, gear and buffs pump accuracy, good for everyday use or those undead special occasions. Here you can see Banishment can hit up to 16 targets in a huge 25 square cloud for 83-216 Holy, 2% Critical. With all her gear and buffs take a look at that accuracy! How do you get that screen? That doesn't seem like my normal talent description screen. Also, speaking of the City of the Dead, is it better to side with Koda or Braeys? And how many levels am I expecting there? I am at 28.5 after finishing the druid quest, and I assume I am done with everything else in Episode 2. But I want to make sure that I don't enter Episode 3 under-leveled.
