contributor - which difficulty again? My melee group is approaching the Great Shaman - Selen, Vince, Vraes & Kyera.

fallen, I will do my best not to take offense at your suggestion that I might be playing on anything but Nightmare. Edit: Actually I think I might have figured out why you asked...and because you asked I created a whole new Google Plus profile just so I could knock you down a notch on the leaderboards.

contributor - sorry, I miss a lot of the thread, and the stuff I was reading recently was about people playing on different difficulties. Congrats on nearing the end of E1! Play safe. I imagine you did just knock me down a level on the leaderboards, as my last Nightmare died at the Gatehouse.

I'm interested to see how well an all-melee group does in that insane ambush in the Orcin caverns, with three combat groups spanning on three different flanks... Probably the hardest fight I've done yet on normal, so I don't even want to think about that one on NM...

Well we made a Grothsicle and carved him up pretty easily (or did we just put him into cryogenic storage?), so as I long as I don't botch the Baron level and fight we're looking good. I might do a full write-up of the group at the end of episode 1. I really love the end of Redhill, so I've been charging hard. I'll probably have to just plow through it, if I'm going to get any work done today. En1gma that is a tough fight, but I find that it's all about repositioning your group early. You might have to completely forgo doing any damage your first turn or two just to get your group somewhere that they can defend. Once that's done I think my team stands a good chance. They've got really solid dynamics up to this point and once Kincaid gets Storm of Steel and can start bringing Cunning Footwork up again they're only going to get better.

Well, duty won out over fun, but now the baron is dead. Very happy with this team and to finally finish Episode 1 with no deaths. I guess I should have probably tried an all melee group before. Who knew?

The Great Shaman is dead. Score is just over 48M. The group had WAAAY more difficulty with the Deathkin at the Shaman fight than we did with the one we fought earlier. Even Selen had a difficult time hitting him, even with KJ's CA4 helping out. Compared to that, the Shaman himself was a pushover. Finding the best balance between defensive talents and offensive ones is going to be the toughest part about this group moving forward...

Yeah, the groups just before the Shaman and the Shaman Death Kin were probably the toughest moments for my group too. I have no Parry debuff so everybody has to keep their accuracy way up. So hopefully your group is through the worst part for awhile now.

I know this challenge is well under way, but I am wondering if the rules should be amended to allow for the use of darting steel. Can I get everyone to weigh in on this?

CdrPlatypus- The description on Darting Steel says it 'augments' blade usage, so I'd be for allowing it. It's not a sniping, long range talent, that's for sure...

En1gma that was my thought for justifying it contributor can we get the king's opinion on this?

Yeah, I don't know. You made the challenge and the point is to have fun. I was looking at that talent and thinking about how useful it would be, especially if you're running Vincent and have no Choking Ash. For me the challenge is more about forcing myself to try something different and I'm happy with the way it's turned out for me. Happening to be on top right now is just sort of icing on the cake and I don't suppose I'll stay here forever. So I've gotten what I want out of the challenge and if others want to try it with Darting Steel that doesn't bug me. The only thing that would make this challenge better would be if slayernz would join it, so I could defeat him (again). But he gave up a long time ago on going head-to-head against me in forum challenges.

Grrrrrrrr...my melee challenge just ended. Selen died in Kern's End from a melee Krete. The strange thing is that she off-tanked a lot against the Krete all through the Torrent Watershed and never even had any close calls. <Sigh> I hate this game...
