I decided to play out a loosing game in The Garden. I am down to 1 faction with 2 colonies, the rest are dead. However the Faction Politics is telling me a Trade Alliance has just started with the faction that was DEAD 2 turns+ ago.

Yeah, this may or may not be fixable. If it cannot be fixed, I'll try to come up with a good in-game explanation.

Out of curiosity... What happens to politics if you have one or more hive suicide itself at the beginning of a game so you can play 100% as one faction?

My guess - politics would still occur with every faction, but with one faction holding all of the ships and colonies, politics would probably be messier as the balance of power would be tipped.

This is surprisingly hard. Those hives are level 400 with high defenses and lots of HP.
Turn 76 and they've barely been scratched.
Edit: turn 140 and after 30+ turns of 13 ships firing at them per turn, they're still barely scratched. One has even managed to rack up 3 exp.

I think that the whole point of the Hives is to prevent them from being easily damaged. It's like people throwing stones at a mountain. It is nearly impossible for the Xeno to destroy them.

Fortunately, we can't abuse their power since those hive pilot dont have any repair skill to bring their hull back at 100%. And we can't upgrade any old ship, just imagine how would a single hive ship with end-game weaponary will single fighting all Xeno in the sector... *sorry for my bad english. Btw, its my first post in the forum*

O e had 11 xp the other 5. And pretty much the ai lost that game because it spent all of every active cycle fighting those two hives not coming for my planets. From the political side, everything worked as normal even without any planets for those two factions. All in all an amusing experiment.

Hey Cory Trese, didn't you say you were gonna make it so that players couldn't colonize with only one hive and use the others as bait, as that would abuse the factions and the hives' original purpose?

Yes, I continue to work towards rules that make this a sub-optimal strategy. Factions being permanently part of the political landscape does contribute to this.
