Hi Cory,
This is my first post ever, i usually read stuff but never write. However this update had got me pretty annoyed.
Ive currently got a guy on Insane and trying to level him up quickly by blockading, this isnt working anymore. Ive just lost my previous captain at impossible two nights ago at level 36, levelling him up by blockading was easy but very risky. So i never thought the whole difficulty level was a calculated variable to give a XP result.
Anyway back to my story, i usually start blockading once my captain stabilizes out and i can take him into more dangerous waters. But once i installed the update this really put a huge road block on front of me. I think the game is going to really start to slowwwww down a lot now, i like to see Star traders as a fast paced game, it usually takes a while to start off on impossible but once you stabilize out its easy.
Use my terrific testing point for the blockading issue if you'd like: Use plant Syndicate Core [-8,6] as your base and blockade Xeen Prime. Usually thats my safest fishing ground for running surveillances and blockades.
Soo... hope this is fixed soon, or the gameplay will be too slow for me to tolerate. Im more of a power leveller guy.

From now on you will not be able to do it that easily. The XP reward will be tied to Solar War, so you will be forced to change your fishing ground more often. I think that it is interesting, more fun, and better balanced. Unfortunatelly, right now you are not awarded with XP at all even during Solar War on higher difficulties. This is confirmed bug and will be fixed: It is a bug I will fix it.

Did you happen to figure out a new technique for power leveling? There should be plenty of conflicts in the Elite edition to always have someone out there who needs blockading. =)

Did you happen to figure out a new technique for power leveling? There should be plenty of conflicts in the Elite edition to always have someone out there who needs blockading. =) Yo Cory, how you doin! First and foremost i want to say well done on constructing a very detailed and well thought out game. It reminds me when i use to program a drug wars game on my graphics calculator in high school. Umm.... I've stopped playing for a while until the blockade/surveillance XP bug gets fixed. Its hard now that blockading at any location doesnt give an XP bonus, and then theres that bug that doesnt award the XP bonus during a solar war for blockade as well. Ive just lost my level 38 captain on insane, its always hard when you work so hard and have a captain lost to a level 60 something patrol ramming into my royal. Im kinda loosing interest in the game because its not as fast paced as i'd like it to be, let me explain why. TBH if i could i would roll the update back to v3.9.15 if i could. Even at level 38, its considered as infant stages from some of the posts ive read. But once you level a bit higher say past level 26+ the enemy captains get harder and levels higher. SO! the only way to get past this is to usually spam the blockade button until you get about 48XP to assign, and then I would dump it into stealth, pilot and tactics just to keep up and survive. Without the ability to spot fix quickly our flaws, survivability becomes harder. AND THEN! well once you've got your end game ship (royal + upgrades) and 2 mill in the coffers, the game becomes a bit drawn out as there isnt much to do left besides power level as high as you can and build a collection of ships. I play star traders as a game to pass time, when im at a lunch break or sitting on the bus. Im usually churning out captains and sending them to their deaths before level 40 is around the corner. It would be nice to break past level 100 without spending over a month playing the game if you know what i mean. Anyway thats my 5c gripe on how i perceive the game as a customer that bought the elite version. I dont consider myself an expert in the game as you dont see me posting here often, im more of a guy that breezes through the android market looking for a good game to waste time. Im now levelling my characters by simply flying around one end of the galaxy to the other end and trying to shoot down whatever i find, even then most of the captains i come against are nearly double my level. Just out of curiosity what cargo in the holds boost the pilot and veteran alien pilot?

@tenebrous Pirate -- Sorry we got a little bit ahead of ourselves with discussing player bases as the "next big feature." I have a specific idea of how I want them to work and the current beta cuts of ST RPG are a long way from providing that experience. It is something I think about a lot and as soon as it is really ready you'll have your bases. royal -- I certainly do not want anyone to be unhappy with the game. I see you mention that you are not happy with your purchase of Elite. First, let me say that if you would like a refund I'll issue one immediately just e-mail me at cory.trese@gmail.com I'm afraid that earlier revisions contained fatal flaws in the XP system that NEEDED to be fixed to retain the original design goals of the game. The fact that the game could easily exploited by mashing the Blockade button is disappointing to me, but that is the raw truth -- I made a big mistake in the code and the result has been painful. For every post on the forum longing for the "old days" I received several e-mails on the other side of the coin -- "I no longer play ST RPG because it is just too easy to mash the blockade button. Please bring back the rich strategic choice tree that previously drove the hunt for XP and advancement." Personally, I have fun up to level 38 and beyond but I never have needed the Blockade exploits to keep up. There are a lot of character classes, difficulty levels and strategies that you could consider adopting that don't depend on the previous release's bugs. Honestly, I think in the long run the game is more fun and better serves the players if the solution to the difficulty system is more nuanced than "mash the BLOCK button." Hopefully ST RPG can convince you of the same.

@cory - In my opinion the game kind of hides from you how things work on the background. It usually takes you a long time to learn the "game rules" from observation and it is a rewarding experience. You are exploring it and finding your game style.
But then you come, do some changes to the way the game works in a good will of balancing exploits, but you do not explain in enough detail what has been changed. This frustrates people and they feel unhappy and being thrown at the beginning of learning curve with every second game update or so.
Just a thought and projection how did I feel after this update.

Blockade XP = Solar War + Rank - This fixes several issues with the Blockades rewards code. - Blockades can generate XP during a Solar War for Captains Ranked in the Military - Blockades can generate a bonus XP point based on the number of Credits gathered from other ships in the area
Surveillance XP = Spy War + Warrant - This fixes several issues with the Surveillance Operation rewards code. - Surveillance operations can generate XP during a Spy War for Captains with Death Warrants - Surveillance operations generate Records which can be converted into additional Reputation points - Record generation is increased by Spy Wars
In short, Blockade and Surveillance operations can generate XP rapidly. The next release will include additional changes to balance out the reputation lost vs. XP gained.
I have tested that this encourages use of Conflicts and increases the desirability of certain Rumors (due to increased blockade results for additional XP bonuses.)
I have found that while the original exploit is no longer present, the rate of advancement from Blockade is still slightly too high. Therefore, once we have substantial e-mail reports of the XP rewards for Conflict exploitation working correctly, we will release a balancing patch (v3.9.21) that includes a slight reputation penalty for all Block/Spy operations.

First, let me say that if you would like a refund I'll issue one immediately just e-mail me at cory.trese@gmail.com Hang on i think you may have mis-interpreted my posts, definately dont want to refund anything. Only app i wish i could be bothered getting a refund for is fruit ninja. Ill rephrase what ive said and that being the previous update didnt work for me. All i had to do was wait another week and sure enough you've fixed it. And what a damn good job it was, once i applied the new update I started a new captain and 3 hours later ive got a level26 pirate on insane. Whats even more awesome is that you get twice the reward if more factions are in a spy or solar wars with that one faction you sit on. Anyway ill serve myself a slice of humble pie, and say great job as the game is fixed, yet balanced and it actually encourages me more to chase down faction conflicts more now then i did before. Ill happily apologise if you took any offence if you read my posts as an insult to your master piece of a game. Anyway im stating that im happy now that the new update is out and ill go back to hide under my moss-bridge where i shall slumber and play star traders hopefully past level 50 if im careful this time.
