Hi Cory,
I just noticed on my new Thulun Colony Expansion, 1 population, 1 factory, 2 mines, perfect morale yet my income is +14
Am I missing something? I thought mine = $21 each?
Thanks for the new addiction.

What are your politics like?
Also without the population to power the factory you are paying it's maintenence, but not getting any benefit

That's seems pretty standard for an early game colony.

Starports are also quite expensive maintenance wise.

As long as your colony turn profit, you're fine.

Thank you all, I get all of that.
Just wanted to know the mechanism behind mining income.
Is it possible that the max is $21/turn but not necessarily will produce $21/turn?

What is your initial maintenance cost?

If I read the library correctly, mining income is not necessarily a pure profit. It was something like "if your mines amount is less than half the mineral quality of a planet". I may be completely wrong too, of course.

odomi - The thing to keep in mind is that the +21 a turn is gross, not net. Meaning that after the revenue from your mines is all calculated (as well as any other revenue from, for instance, idle cp or tp) then all of your colony's expenses are calculated. So the actual colony revenue is calculated based on how much money you are bringing in modified by how much money you spend on maintenance. To further complicate this, morale and your political situation can then further modify the amount of revenue or expenses. Basically, you will need to try to build up a decent amount of revenue on each colony as a buffer for morale and political fluctuations. I'm typing all this up on my phone so it's hard to make everything come out really clearly. If you want I can try to type it up a little better when I get home.

A "Mine 1" costs 5 to Maintain. A single exploited Mineral Resource generates 21 Credits per turn, under normal conditions. That yields a profit of 16 per Mine 1.
A "Mine 2" costs 10 to Maintain. It generates 42 Credits per turn, under normal conditions. That yields a profit of 32 per Mine 2.

If these are fixed numbers, does that mean it is fine to build as many mines as population could handle?

If these are fixed numbers, does that mean it is fine to build as many mines as population could handle? Mines and Population don't interact.

They still use upgrade slots. Speaking of which...

They still use upgrade slots. Speaking of which... Don't follow what you mean. You can build as many Mineral Extraction points as you have Mineral Resource points. Beyond that, no income is generated (but maintenance is still paid.)

What's confusing me is the figure in the bottom left corner of the screen when you view the colony's economy. Where it would have two figures such as: $+14/-21 wouldn't the first figure be the gross incone and the second be the total maintenance? With my original premise where 2 mines are installed, tp = 0, morale = 10, population of 1. The gross income should be atleast $+42 but it shows only $+14. Should I go through tutorial again? Maybe I wasn't paying attention to the class.
