I've been maxing out Strength and Gunnery, then I start putting point into Quickness, Tactics, Evasion, and Grenades.

CdrPlatypus - talking about Plasma Soldiers, Leader-Grenadiers or Long-Range types? Those are the three kinds I tend to train and keep.

CdrPlatypus - I find the best results if you accept that an OW Templar is going to be dedicated to defensive moves. Especially with early Talent points, focus is good. Don't go for BF 2 and OW 2, go for OW 3 and 4. Of course, you're using Strength and Gunnery weapons, so invest in those. However, a lot of shooting on OW is going to wrack up big heat, so split your Attributes between Fortitude / Willpower / Strength. Strength is kind of last because for a while, Gunnery can take care of it. Watch your OW successes, and decide what gear you need. Are you getting enough "p" (penetrating hits) or do you just need more damage? Are you paired with a scout who is reducing armor, and so more damage is going to have a bigger impact then "p" on smaller armor values? All Soldier's start with a Calling Shots buff. Do not make the mistake of ignoring this awesome buff. For most Soldiers, I use this as a self-buff and hitting other nearby Templars is convenience only. Things are usually moving fast enough that I don't want to spend time clumping Templars if I don't need it. With the average deploy between 12 and 20 turns, you can stay ~80% Buffed on your Accuracy without raising the Talent at all, which is critical not to miss this. Long Leviathans are especially great for OW, as they give you a lot more sweeping room.

So far my favorite talent to max out is Burst Fire. I do put one point into the grenades as soon as I can. Once BF is done, I'm focusing on talents like RC and CS. With two soldiers together, one can BF most xenos away and the second goes into OW to handle the rest. I haven't raised OW at all.

I wish there was a way for a single screenshot to show all the details of a Templar.
My L8 soldier uses the massive Power Gauntlet to crush all close Xenos then goes into Overwatch on HL. I've respec on a couple levels when I need more Fortitude and Evasion for some solo melee action.

I think the balance of Grapple ending your move makes this a really fair and fun way to play.

Like fallen early on I go for BF 1-2, OW3-4,and grenades 4-5.i give the captain 5+ for grenades. Love those grenades. They are like a free bee weapon with lots of kick for the buck!
Early attributes/skills I leave strength & gunnery for later and focus on willpower initially then fortitude. I've found early on these are more important than gunnery/strength.
I've been playing around with focus and tactics early, but i am undecided as to their worth. However building them early may be a good thing later in the game.

anvil I like to lvl tactics on my early engineers for the force field buff. I'm not sure about its usefulness for soldiers early though.

I try to stay away and rely on OW for close in. I start evasion later in the game. I too would like more details on all of these.
Lol, I just keep adding until I see some dramatic changes happen.
engineer seems to be around 10.willpower seems to start kicking in around5.

If you feel like there are missing statistics or explanation, please be specific so we can help fill in the details in the game. Per a previous request (maybe jknut?) I just added details to each Sentry Turret level about the armor / weapon upgrades you get.
