I do always abandon the TP for the last push. But I always place four turrets around it and they usually hold out for the few turns it takes to destroy the north focus. The last two times I've played it, I've done East, West, then North. For the East and West though I generally try to gauge which one has the heaviest flow and send my expeditionary force in the opposite direction. I let the mobs crash into the TP and turrets and whatever knights I've left behind.
I can see good reason for saving the East for last because it is the hardest. It makes sense to go for it with all of your knights.
I haven't really thought long and hard over it, but I think I like the North last because it's big and open and easy to send all my troops up for the final push. That let's me destroy the focus quickly so I don't have to deal with the Litch over and over again. This last time, I destroyed the focus in one turn and almost killed the Litch too. One more hit by anybody and it would have gone down. In the end, it was parked next to Nyra and landed a big 77p hit on her. She killed it with a counter attack though, which I was a little afraid would break the game. I see you had accounted for that eventuality though. Good work.

I delete file and restart if I lose my cpt On Captain loss, same here. On any Templar loss, I play through. That's the fun! I lost 2 Neptunes, a Scout(he had 9 lives), and an Engineer before I decided it was time to restart and try for a better score. Is it game over on a story character death?

NoQuitt - welcome to the forum! Thanks for all the posts on Steam and your review there Yes, any story character (Luthor, Nyra, Captain) results in a level defeat.

But it's not game over in terms of being able to continue right?

It results in a level defeat. So, you have to play the level again.
On Ironman, you lose and have to try the turn again.

Aaahhaahaaa, Inflitration Site just went terrribly sideways. Marcus (Neptune) went down to 6HP and was overheated, but I could just afford the cheapest med-kit. The engineer when down to 30 and was severely overheated so I had to park him for a few turns, before working on the second TP. He ended with 19 HP. The Cap also went down to 40 something HP. Both scouts shone brightly but couldn't have lasted much longer because of HP loss from heat. They just squeeked it out though. Ortho, was just awesome Ortho. Hurried everybody when we needed it and mostly single-handedly kept the back door shut. I've never seen spawns like I got on that level before.

contributor - is it variation monsters starting to bite in?

I did get one Siege Goliath, which accounted for most of the pain Marcus received, but that was the only one. I think I've got different kinds of Hunters too (I should pay more attention) but they've been around for awhile. It was mostly numbers. I had a couple of Brood Mothers just park and spawn. The whole area around the lower TP was just packed with xeno when I moved down there. I'm thinking it was just RNG though, unless you tweaked things.

contributor - we haven't made any changes. A few parked Brood Mothers can fill the pit with Scittering very quickly.

Ok Rubic 5 missions are all done and I still got the original crew. I had a close call at the end of Detonation Site when a Goliath spawned a few tiles from my second scout and nearly crushed him. He would have been very replaceable though, unlike my first scout. Score is 4.7 mil.

Lost my first knight. It was my lower xp scout to a Lancer. That was a new variation for me. The scout was hurting, but I had him parked behind a full health soldier with OW towards the Lancer. I thought 1) he's too far away and 2) he'll hit the soldier first. I learned something. I'll go until my Cappy bites it.

Lancers are Kill on sight for me, even if it means not being able to put a Soldier on OW or not hitting other Xenos with attacks. Don't know what it is but they seem to have an uncanny knack for being able to hit Templars with even the largest Ranged Defense Dice pool, and if that Templar is already hurt that's likely leathal. Seeing Scout in Panther Deep Op, Irid-Coated Guantlet, Twich Kit and Prox-Alert Scanner with Quickness and Evasion both 16 get hit twice in a row by one makes you extremely nervous about them

Well, I've gotten further than CdrPlatypus in terms of levels, but am way behind him on points. I'm currently at the Righteous Fallen: Bridge level. I've lost 4 knights, three scouts and an engineer. One scout was level 19 and the engineer was level 16 so I think that really hurt my score. I've had a few disastrous levels in terms of turns so that has no-doubt brought me down. I'm currently about 5 million points, but my leaderboard score is listed as 5.9mil. I must have had it up much higher at some point. It's crazy to be ahead in terms of levels but still have just over half in terms of score.
