Some bad news for the knights bible. (AND ME!!!)

due to a ceramic heater causing a power surge, i now have a fried computer, and a brick of a phone. right now i am trying to contact a data recovery company to try and recover the hard drive. i had NO FREAKING IDEA that data recovery costs as much as it does. (3500$$$!!!)

All my work on the knight's bible are on that hard drive, as well as much of my own work for my novels....

let this be a lesson to EVERYONE HERE.

i consider myself a loyal cyber knight fan, but dont think i am dropping that kind of money just in hopes of recovering my work on the knights bible.
i have lots of work, tons of notes for my plotlines, characters and world history (my fictional world) which i MUST HAVE to make sure i dont cause a continuity error when writing.

Imagine if the star wars writers lost their world info. (wookies come from kasheek, which is the setting for novel X, which will occur on the 3rd moon of kasheek, and will involve luke skywalker, han and leia's kids, etc.

okay, the book comes out and fans go nuts, writing hate mail, because its not spelled kasheek, its spelled kashyyk.
also there is only one moon, not three. also during the time period of the novel, luke skywalker is running the new jedi academy, and han and leia have not yet HAD children....)

all it takes is one little detail out of place, and BLAM. that glaring mistake can ruin the feeling of immersion in the world. it also creates a problem for all future works, since you will have to explain it all away.

"alternate universe", anyone?

at any rate, being a writer does NOT make you rich, unless you are steven king or dean koontz. with that cost, i am not going to be able to get a new computer for a little while. i am going to have to wait and see if my publisher can provide me one. (or at least we can wait for the homeowners insurance check to arrive.)
in the meantime, i am using Jen's phone to send this, and i assure you that i will be back up and running as soon as possible.
sorry for the dissapointment, but i dont get to play cyber knights either.... which SUPER SUCKS.
now im gonna have to go play an INFERIOR cyber punk adventure.....

Before you spend 3500 on data recovery, if you haven't already, take your disk and install it on somebody else's computer -- say a knowledgable friend. If they can read your disk, you are home free -- you just need to copy the data onto your new machine, or install that disk on the new machine. I strongly recommend backing up the data as the first thing you do when you find that you can read it, in case your disk is damaged as well, and will soon begin to fail. This is unlikely, but in this case it is very much better safe than sorry.

blackgauntlet if you really don't know steven king try the gunslinger series.(its not bad) or Eye of the dragon,one of my favorites. Avoid the stand imo...starts out terribly boring,but maybe just me.

OMG "Who is Stephen King?" I am toooo old. Let's not forget "Carrie" and "Cujo" and "Firestarter"!!! My opinion is different than gravismetallum's ... I think "The Stand" is a great book and a great read. But I do agree the "Gunslinger" is worth checking out.

I guess these days reading a novel doesn't leave much time for gaming!! : P

ironically, 3 of the 5 of the SK books mentioned have Randall Flagg in them. The Stand is a classic, but you need to read the unabridged version, yes it starts out slow...but with that many characters it has to be.
All of the Dark Tower series ie Gunslinger books are great. Some are slow too, but the whole series wraps very nicely into King's universe. I've read everything King with the exception of Duma Key and Under The Dome.

Ahh... you meant Stephen King! I love Gunslinger too. Really bad-ass but my brain kinda hurts trying to discern which was the real "Reality", if there was even one in the first place. And if that was not horrible enough, he wrote 6 more sequels to mind-f*ck you a few more times.

My "Stand" on this is that "It" is the same creature in "Needful Things", "The Dreamcatcher", "The Library Policeman" and a whole lot of other stories. ;D

I adore SK,DARK TOWER books are very nice(now i'm reading the last one,in ita it's published as "La torre nera") And i divored many SK books** i loved (ita name) "l'ombra dello scorpione",where a plague devastates the humans and the survivors try to reorganize theirself^^it's a nice work,long,detailed,maybe a tv miniserie was been made,but i don't know if the original name of the book is his licteral traslation(Scorpion's Shadow) or another...^^

No, from all points, it seems as though they are the same.
At least very similar.
or at least all part of the King's entourage...Crimson King that is.

DreamCatcher was Alien. Needful things: Gaunt was either a lo-man, or was another version of Flagg. The library police men were all Lo-men.
ironically as his writing all progressed, either he was fully conscious of it or not, his mythologies were magnetizing toward a north of his own design. It just had a massive tower at that point.

I can go on about King all day. One of my inspirations for writing, actually.
