I see. My Alien hunters would definitely welcome that equipment though, because they use 36 hull ships... And warrior skill 2x my level is so much that nobody has survived more than 4 boarding battles.

Actually, slow ships aren't really good for soaking damage... I use slow ships only as scouts, contract ships or blockades and surveyors. They are useless in battle though. Even my torpers have at least medium speed, preferably high though..

Slow ships aren't good for taking damage because they're slow, but because the ships with the high hull and armor tend to be slow (or medium). Slow ships would also be better for that upgrade because they aren't going to dodge attacks anyway, so they'd be better off having more armor than an upgrade which increases evasion. Personally, I prefer quick ships for evading than bigger, medium-speed or slow ships. I'd only use a medium ship early in the game where enemies cannot do much damage or for blockading in the safe orbit of a faction planet, away from deep-space travel. But everyone is different!

Lol reading through this thread I just realized that more than half of the new upgrade ideas I made were already suggested one way or another by others. Guess genius minds really do think alike!

Well, every playing style requires different ships. Gunbunny style puts it as a must to have a fast/quick ship, in the worst case medium/quick. The advantage of quick ships vs medium ships is insane in terms of guns support and damage avoidance. Boarders with fast/quick ships aren't bad... But I would say, against the alien it's much better to have as huge of a ship as possible if you board. The size of the hull plays some nice role in the boarding, and also, lower hull, but higher crew, means bigger casualties under a successful gunfire.

Bigger ships are better for boarding alone. But smaller ships that have high crew AND are quick, while less advantageous in board, are much better against pirates who ram you. It also allows you to invest less in Pilot and more in Warrior.

Yes, you're right. Bigger ships are better for boarding alone. But smaller ships that have high crew AND are quick, while less advantageous in board, are much better against pirates who ram you. It also allows you to invest less in Pilot and more in Warrior. The fact that your ship is quick doesn't allow you to invest less in pilot and more in warrior. It's only up to you how you build your ship. True, medium/medium has less advantages in gunnery and less resistance against ram damage... But if I want to avoid pirates, I just keep my trade permits. The only trouble could be indy pirates.. . But again, if I wanted to have a Captain that dominates the field against normal ships, I would go for 200% pilot and 100% warrior. I would also go for high crew quick ship. But if I go against the aliens, then I don't need to care about pirates. So against aliens, I sacrifice pilot and tactics for warrior and intimidate. With base warrior 200% of my level and another 80% warrior bonus from weapons at the cost of pilot reduced to 70%, my medium medium ship is susceptible to ram damage, although one ram attack shouldn't take it down due to huge armor value, and to mid range gunnery, which the AI is unable to exploit. But I am not susceptible to close range gunnery due to the fact that my board immediately kills 70% of enemy crew on the spot. This is just an explanation.. . That there is nothing that allows things in ST RPG. All that matters is how your build should work.

Well everyone has differrnt builds that work for them. One of the good things about ST I guess is that there is no "best" build. If MEDIUM/MEDIUM ships work for you and you are succesful with them, then that's great. All personal preference.
