Just sort of lore question, but it's bugging me. Hypersonic (assume that means they travel faster than the speed of sound?) torpedoes can travel 3 squares in a turn. That's much further than the distance between many stars in ST4X. Can this be explained, or is just one of those real-life-physics-don't-apply-here things?

They're actually Hyperwarp Torpedoes that travel at FTL speeds through an alternate space. This same technology is how ST2's hyperwarp gates are accessed and the quadrants reunited. Hypersonic was a terminology that was used in ST RPG initially and was just a thing we used to replace the common ST RPG term that wasn't OK to use due to stupid laws about owning ideas.

I thought the stars just jumped out of the way because they didn't want to be hit.

I thought the stars just jumped out of the way because they didn't want to be hit. In ST 4X, you cannot shoot though the Stars as far as I am aware.

Go drink some more coffee Cory to wake up. My post was meant as a joke Since when do stars jump to avoid collisions.

There are many stars with wobbles that could be deemed as moving out of your way if you're trying to thread the needle with a particularly tricky torp shot. Me - I'd work on tech that would trigger the star to go nova - that way you might not shoot through the star, but you'd take out the target (and the whole stellar neighborhood)

The probability of threading a needle based on a stars wobbability just sounds outright astronomical.

"Hypersonic" wouldn't actually make much sense in space since there is no sound in space...

That's neat slayernz but again it's too logical. These arguments must be made with nonsense.
