Power and connection issues are some of the biggest problems being reported. I always find it so stupid and funny how no one bothers to think about those two things. It's common issue you see people complain about. But in the first few days they made millions of dollars so they really won't care. I tried following the link in the Play Store information to the support site for the game and spent over five minutes clicking on things before I finally got to the support page. I still want to try this game out, but it looks like waiting a bit might be a good idea.

Servers are going down for every new country added... it'$ easily 3x as popular as expected. It has doubled Nintendo's market cap alone... I think they only own 30% of Pokemon franchise to boot.
...No I don't play it, maybe when Pokemon Gone or Went comes out. :-p

Also, for those whining about Go's power consumption, there is a setting named Battery Saver. Just enable it - among other things, when your phone is upside down, the screen darkens without disabling Go's alerts to things of interest.
Alternatively, use brain and buy a portable power battery - and I don't mean a cheap one with only one USB port and a capacity of 2 000 mAh and only 10~Wh. Get a decent one... mine's 37 Wh / 10 000 capacity with THREE charging ports and lasts me all day, even playing Pokemon Go.

Battery isn't as bad as you think. Battery saver on both the game and the phone makes it manageable.
I'll second that investment in the external battery-- thing's a life saver

Ok so tell me what all the excitement is about. Other than the two Pokémon I captured sitting at home in my room, I've not seen any others. Took walks around neighborhood and to the nearest 2 Poké Stops and nada. Occasionally see white rings or what look like leaf bursts but walking to location and nada.
Also yes the battery use really is that bad. Have a Mophie on my S6 and without power saving mode turned on I'll get about 8 hours of TB games, web surfing, YouTube, texting and online gaming before getting low battery warning and needing to plug in. Pokémon Go ate both phone and case battery in less than 2 hours.

xdesperado First off, those PokeStops? Wait until they're covered in a purple glitter - that means someone put a Lure on them, which causes Pokemon to spawn at them every minute or two. You could also just put a Lure on them yourself. Second, make use of Incense: that acts as a PERSONAL lure, and pokemon will spawn near you every few minutes for half an hour. Third, go to a PokeStop that's Lured or drop your own Lure, AND use Incense. They WILL spawn faster than you can catch them, in many cases. Fourth, enable Battery Saving in-game and on the phone, and minimize screen brightness - brightness will kill your battery faster than almost anything else. Fluttering green grass has a CHANCE of pokemon, often rare ones, spawning - especially if you're using Incense. No guarantees though, and it's still a once-every-couple-minutes-or-so event. Finally, you won't get much of anything just by wandering - usually, unless you're hitting up PokeStops. Catching Pokemon involves getting off your ass, hitting up Lured PokeStops, hunting down rare pokemon at fluttering leaves, and plenty of exercise - or driving. Lazy bastards... anyway. So yeah. And when you get high enough, go challenge some Gyms, take them over! Walk! Get up, go outside, walk from one PokeStop to the next, even if they aren't Lured. You'll find a Pokemon at nearly every Blue PokeStop (Purple means they're cooling down, you've used it recently, but they reset every five minutes).

I don't mean to sound like I was whining or anything. Power usage is something that comes up with a lot of new apps even though Android has been out for several years now. I would like to think that both devs and users alike know how to use power saving functions. I like to keep track of things that happen in the digital world and find it strange, funny, and at time maddening how thick as a brick people can be and yet call themselves electronic savvy. I keep a few spare battery packs around for charging but rarely do anything where I need them. Tend to just use them when I go off grid. Good tips Darth Cthoras, you get a karma

I don't leave home without my brick (aforementioned Uniden portable power battery, weighing in at... dunno. Less than a pound, but more than a can of soda). 10+ hours of charge for up to three devices at once? And I paid only 15$ for it on clearance... Office Depot sells them at 50$ normally.

Darth Cthoras thanks for tips. Did use incense and saw nothing whole time it was active even though I walked to a couple places with the leaves/grass stuff. Can't exactly stand around middle of street in front of other people's houses lol. Got 3 balls from each of the 2 stops I walked to but no Pokémon to try capture even though second one had 2 of the leaf things going next to it and 3 white circle things. Will visit both again tomorrow at least once as I take walks for exercise but so far there hasn't been much to get me excited about the game. On a more positive note, what sorts of Pokémon should I be looking for, been many long years since I played any Pokémon game and then very little. Currently have Bulbasaur CP14 and Abra CP10. What does the different types mean and does Weight and Height make any difference?

...suddenly occurs to me, but you miiiight want to GPS spoof to a place that has lots of pokemon. Like New York. A lot of people are (and many get soft-banned for a few hours), but they're swearing by it regardless.

I've noticed that in the suburbs of Atlanta, early in the morning or later in the evening, sometimes are no pokemon showing up on my grid. By grid I mean the "Nearby" screen you get to by clicking the graphic in the lower right hand corner of the main screen. This morning there were literally none showing up when I first go up, but after leaving it on for a while, there were a few when I walked my dog.
There are definitely more pokemon around downtown Atlanta where I work.
I wonder if the pokemon are more likely to spawn in areas where there are more players. If you're trying to minimize server load, it would make sense to not spawn pokemon in areas where there are no players.
xdesperado, I'm guessing there are places around you with more players where you might find more pokemon.
Regarding which ones to catch. You may want to catch everyone you find, this gives you more Stardust and Candy for leveling up your favorites. You can transfer the ones you don't want to keep.
Anyone found a good description of how the different attacks work. Two questions in particular. 1) What is the meaning of the blue bars next to a pokemon's special attack in it's summary sheet? Are they relate to how long it takes to charge that attack? 2) A chart of which attack types are effective/ineffective against which pokemon types.

qbspy, I've been playing for several days and my Data Usage shows 43.8 MB--I'm not sure if that includes downloading the app itself. I think maybe it bumps up a bunch each time you go to a completely new area. It hardly went up at all for a couple of days while I was playing in the same location. Battery drain isn't so bad. Screen has a lot to do with it. It's amazing what has happened to nintendo's stock. Saw a cool graph on that earlier this week.

Ok got practically nothing yesterday, had 3 Pokémon and the two incense I had were completely wasted as nothing appeared. This morning on walk through neighborhood to visit the two stops closest to me was like they were popping up everywhere. Grabbed everyone spotted and rapidly approaching level 5.
Would love to know what all the various attack types are, if size matters, how about sex of Pokémon got a couple with the symbol for females next to their names.
