Now we are just large fleshy assistants for our little digital masters. :-)
Regarding the sheep's last link, at least there's the one example of a pokego player finding and assisting someone with heat stroke.

I'd cheerfully assist someone who's collapsed with heatstroke... by lightening their burden via wallet. Yoink.

Considering the games only been out a few weeks, on the one hand that's great, but it also goes to show that all they'll care about is money. Just the other day my niece was having trouble logging in. In this day and age of computers, how could a company not foresee the amount of data and severs they would need. Oh well, perhaps if I can get a new phone, I'll most likely give it a try. It's been funny that even though I haven't played it, I've been remembering all the stuff I know from years ago. Someone will say or ask something and I'll know the answer, and it works even in the new game

Someone will say or ask something and I'll know the answer, and it works even in the new game When things break down is generally not 'we needed more servers than we could ever have imagined in our wildest, most optimistic dreams', (engineers are good at dreaming) but rather 'we told our hosting company that we expected all of this, and they said 'yeah, yeah, no problem we can handle it' and then when it happened, they couldn't. Often because they didn't quite believe us in the first place. There are unforseen problems when things get that big. A good principle of distributed design is to store your data in more than one place, and periodically have your local servers sync with each other. These designs generally assume that the time it will take to do this is negligiable. When that is not true, all sorts of bad things happen. And this is one of the places for hot, cutting-edge computer science research. At the largest end of things, the problem is that _nobody knows how to do this stuff yet_. It is all one horrible kludge ... I hope the person who collapsed with the heatstroke didn't get that way because he was playing pokemon-go and went outside unprepared for the weather ...

Keeps my girlfriend entertained for hours. I have even been recruited more than once to be the driver as she collects coins and creatures from a bunch of stops. Driving around seeking virtual critters, surreal and amusing.

Welcome to the boards Grav Swordstar! Pokego can get surreal. At lunch in the park today I saw a pair of middle-aged men in business attire. As I approached them, I overheard their conversation about pokemon. The Sheeps latest link describes another revenue stream for Pokego. Niantic is cutting deals with movie theatre (TOHO) and restaurant chains (Mcdonals) to put pokestops at their retail facilities, which should drive up foot traffic and revenue. The article doesn't say if Niantic is charging the companies to do this, but I assume they are.

They'll only expect it next time and learn nothing from the experience. More to the points, if they're that weak, something else will kill them if that doesn't. Besides, what's in it for me?
