someone had to bring this up, it was inevitable, so don't shoot the messenger. I've been playing intermittently for a couple of days, and think it is pretty fun. I'm giving it a try because it's a huge cultural phenomena and one of my sons is having a lot of fun playing with his friends. It is probably most fun playing with friends, which I don't. Still collecting Pokemon is fun. There's a Poke Stop in my office building which has a large, semi-public atrium. I've managed to capture Pokemon in my building and even in my office. Sorta funny. From what I've read, the game upon which Pokemon Go is based --Ingress--sounds a bit deeper and more fun for more dedicated gamers. But the lightness of Pokemon Go is appealing to me because I don't have the time to play games that require a large time commitment all at once. (TB games I can stretch out over long periods of time.)

Ingress is fun. I wish I had time to make a multiplayer RPG based on the Pokemon go idea.
Everyone would wander around fighting monsters and forming parties to kill beasties.

I've been keeping an eye on this game for a while, sadly my current phone is not really strong enough to run. I would love to play. Right now I'm having fun tracking all the strange news stories that are popping up. Things like dead bodies found, idiots walking over cliffs, one forum member the other day here said he just about tripped over an alligator trying to catch a Seaking.

I'm loving this game, honestly. Level 15 and still going strong.
Team Mystic, which is the most populous by far, but for some reason we have an extremely weak presence in my immediate area. I'm just biding my time until I can start dropping 1K plus Pokémon on the rival gyms...
I met a team Valor who has taken complete control of one entire area and got some great tips and insight for planning into the long game.
It's amazing to see so many people getting out of the house and visiting local sights that they might never have seen before. It's a great sort of camaraderie that it's fostering and I hope it sticks around for a while!

Ha, I'm level 4 and just about to turn to level 5, so I'm going to have choose a team. The Mystic mission statement is more aligned with my character, and they seem to dominate my neighborhood. But, my son is on Valor, so I'll probably go that.
One pointer for new players my son gave me is to NOT level up the pokemon you capture early on. Wait and see what you get, then start leveling up the more powerful ones you find.
I've also realized that you can get two of the same pokemon that have completely different attacks, so pay attention to that when selecting which pokemon to advance.
Of course, you want diversity, but the vast majority of pokemon I've captured so far are flying type.

Honestly don't waste a SINGLE POINT of Stardust!!!!! It's NOT worth it. Wait until you're at least 16-18 to do it, and even then think twice. I'm probably waiting until I hit 20 to start dominating gyms.
Also if you get 10k eggs, don't even think about hatching them until you're 20. Waiting will allow them to hatch into much more powerful versions than if you just went ahead and did it at a lower level.
Catch EVERYTHING YOU SEE. No matter what. Wait until you have a shit-ton of Pidgeys/Caterpies/Weedles/Ratatas and enough candy to evolve a swarm of them at once. Use a Lucky Egg to get 2X EXP and evolve everything at once. Not past the first evolution, and watch your levels skyrocket.

That all makes sense, in a nerdy-crazy sort of way.
Except why 'not past the first evolution'? Maybe because it costs too much candy.
While I see the logic of your approach, I may strike a middle road and evolve some earlier. I'm currently incubating my first egg. I see what you're saying, but there's also something to be said for experiencing the game.
I may attack a gym before I'm really ready, just to have the experience and get a more intuitive understanding of how fights work.

Is the game a data monster? Uses a lot?

The problem I have is not enough ram to really run it right, it may run on my current phone, but very, very poorly. Right now it's recommended to have 2 GB of system ram to run it.

The next couple Pokemon Go updates are gonna include trading. For those looking for a true Pokemon MMO experience, though, I recommend checking out PokeMMO at www.PokeMMO.eu

The problem I have is not enough ram to really run it right, it may run on my current phone, but very, very poorly. Right now it's recommended to have 2 GB of system ram to run it. Metro PCS has relatively cheap 2GB RAM phones. e.g. Alcatel one touch fierceXL is $50 with 5.5in 720p and 16GB of storage, I think kitkat iir. I got my zmax from them for $50, but they don't list that model any more, but there is an upcoming zmax pro for $99 6.0in 1080p 32GB of storage and lollipop or marshmallow? idk. Looking at the Apple app store, it'll run on most 1GB ram iPhones/pads/pods. So there's that option too, but those'll often cost more than the 2GB Android devices suggested. On the plus side I've gotten thousands of dollars of premium apps for free on iOS promotions (way more than I have time or interest to test... my kids however...). :-p There are apps/web sites that track those things.

If I wasn't saving all my money for my trip to Wasteland Weekend, I could get a new phone. I'll figure something out. Thanks for the tips guys.

Ok downloaded Pokémon Go, figured it would be something to help occupy me while running mom to appointments etc. Have captured 2 so far, but honestly I'm completely clueless about what I'm supposed to be doing and seem to have a lot of connection issues with the game. It is a huge battery drain with the location services turned on and honestly not sure I care for the constant tracking and doubtless mailbox full of spam I'll get because of it.
