True story It's not finished until you can't stand the bloody thing anymore. Alas, I have many things I cannot stand any more, and well, they still aren't finished .... Haha I know the feeling. I love Roach but I'm going crazy working on her story. Unfortunately she won't leave me alone either, so we're in this weird love/hate relationship right now. XD

Took on a new project... One of my in-laws' friends has a son who wrote this absolutely MASSIVE Fan Fiction like 5 years ago that he wants to get published. Only problem is that it's 750+ pages of first draft and there is an insane amount of cutting that needs to be done, countless structure issues, and grammatical adjustments that need to be worked through. I'm almost positive that I bit off more than I can chew, but the story is good so far and I'm eager to see where he took it. First step was to have him go through and indent each and every paragraph, and start grouping conversations and dialog in a more ordered manner. Once he did all that, I had him start sending me his revised pages, chapter by chapter, so I could transfer them to Google Docs for second draft editing. Now it's a matter of suggesting changes, correcting grammar where I can, and guiding him to start showing and not telling. (I *almost* COMPLETELY understand this now, fallen!!) It's going to take years for this thing to be finished, but it's a great way to directly learn how to finish edit a story, which in turn will only improve my own writing.

Best of luck to you. Will you still be writing in the meantime? How like you manage that with your own work?

I... don't know. Part of me feels bad that I took on the project at all... What time has opened up for me is precious, and I'm still trying to get my own writings done and don't have anywhere near as much time as I want to give his project.

They all tore me a new one saying I needed to give up, but I'm still here. Solidified my passion for writing in the end, and made me think more before going ahead with an idea On a side note, just learned that one of my characters is actually me from that branch of existence... sure made my head hurt lol

How's everyone's project going? I gave up Roach to work on original novel ideas when I finally realized I had to leave an open ending for Roach. ;_; Oh god why did I do this??

Not everyone has the strength of will to continue writing after being lambasted by multiple sources. I wouldn't call it constructive criticism if they tell you to just give it up and get a nice quiet hobby of stamp collecting. Those are not your peers if they are that pompous. They are scared.

As an Officer and a Genius, I have every confidence in your ability to make progress on your novel.
I'm writing a sketch of project. The project is somewhat controversial as my dissertation chair said he wasn't sure it could be done without spending too much money. So, I'm breaking it into two phase. Phase 1 is discovery, where we'll gather info to inform our decision about whether to and how to do phase 2. I get anxious writing this stuff, the stakes are high for me. Difficult to settle in and really get the cursor moving, leaving that much desired alphanumeric contrail. (Of course this nervous energy gives me plenty of juice for pithy posts.)

You need a hug. (Hug) Take a deep breath and work on your outline first. Have a good idea of what you're writing. Then go ahead and follow your outline along. Just dump everything on the page. Then edit the hell out of it and bask in your awesomeness. Depending on your schedule, you can spread this over days or even weeks. ... Wait, did I just answer my own problems? Dammit I hate it when I do that, I feel like I have to do it then.

Me writing anything that is longer than few sentences never ends well, although I have wrote some stuff in my native Latvian(woops I just told those who didn't know that I am Latvian), but that's mostly it, I though like to write songs and play my saxophone in my spare time, but mostly I just do stuff that's IT related...

If you follow an outline it'd be much easier. According to a lecture video on writing I watched just a couple hours ago, that's not necessarily true, Officer Genious . Click here if you want to watch the video, but one of the things the speaker said was that some writers find it easier to work with an outline, while others find it easier to make up the story as they go along. Hey, En1gma , didn't you mention somewhere that you liked the Mistborn series? Well the speaker in the video is the author (Brandon Sanderson), so you in particular might want to watch it.
