I do understand that is the idea behind Cyanogenmod. After six years of full time Android development, my experience is that the results are ... mixed. I have Cyanogenmod on four devices (out of 21) and I do like it, seems to work fine on that hardware.
I just know from talking to users that it isn't always offering better performance or battery life.

I had this kind of problem on my old Samsung Galaxy S2. The HardwareBlobs of the Chipset Developers were only for android 4.3. At some point they weren't anymore compatible with newer AndroidVersions and some stuff needed to be reverse engineered. Because that, my new smartphone is a Nexus 6 with Qualcom-Chipset. More of the blobs are open source or get updates during a longer time period. And the performence is nice.

I bought a new phone today. Prestigio muze a5. Android 5.1.1. The game is very slow on that device as well... However disabling map background fixes the speed well, making the game finally perfectly playable again! It's quite bizarre though that on my tablet, even though it is hardwarewise stronger, the game runs pretty slow even when I turn off the map background. And on my Visionbook 7q GPS with Android OS 4.4.2 the game just runs perfectly fast even with the background turned on.

I'm having similar slow movement issues with my Nexus 5x running Android 7.0. I figured it was time to get back into ST a little more in prep for ST2 to come out. It's been a long time since I played it seriously. Anyways ship movement is painstakingly slow across the map. I turned of the background and fly scrolling, but they don't seem to make any difference. My phone is stock.

Thanks for the feedback. We will keep working to improve the Android UI and OS integration!

There are a lot of different factors, obviously, even device to device just how it is being used and what other applications are running.
We monitor performance on new devices as they come out and continue to test and work to improve.

And here people have been telling me that c++ is obsolete... now that I know professionals are still using it, I should be ok lol. Object oriented programming lol

Object oriented programming lol I heard it was still used in the programming community, just not the stuff people actually teach with. :/ Boggles me mind, it does. Also, I wanted to say I kept running into this issue when my phone is connected to a charger while playing, or while I had some notifications popping up in the background. It seemed like the OS couldn't handle multitasking.

Thanks Officer Genious. I'm not playing with the charger connected. Did you find anything specific that helps? In my case, I'm pretty sure that it's not a matter of general lack of system resources. The phone is than more powerful enough to run ST RPG and I'm not noticing a slowdown in any other apps. I will try manually shutting down some apps running in the background and see if that helps anything. It's getting to quite a drag (actually it really feels like my ship is trying to fly through thick mud) as I take longer cross-quadrant contracts. It just makes me more excited about ST2 coming out.

It's maybe a feature of Android 5+. The way the Android renders things has been changed, which causes the rendering to be slow especially with wider screens. Just my hypothesis, but could be the thing. To me it helped to force 4x AA in developer settings to speed up the game on my tablet. I don't need this option for my phone, fortunately. It's not a problem of performance though. ST RPG puts very little stress on the device, my cpu runs only with 5% usage and the GPU is not stressed either. It's just the system, maybe even system UI, that messed things up.

I heard it was still used in the programming community, just not the stuff people actually teach with. :/ Boggles me mind, it does. Generally, they are teaching stuff that is thought to be easier to learn. Unfortunately, that might mean you miss out on really important concepts. Like memory allocation ... Java just "does it for you" (and a terrible job of it), so we don't need to talk much about it, do we?

Step #1 is probably post the FULL details about your device. I can see if I have the exact same one or a different one.

It's the Nexus 5X made by LG, 32GB. It just updated to Android 7.1.1 and it is still very slow. ROM is Stock, phone is not rooted. Security patch is Dec 5, 2016 Baseband: M8994F-2.6.36.2.20 Kernel: 3.10.73-gc33dd1bd Build number: NMF26F Developer options off.
ST RPG Elite is 6.1.17 bought from Google Play. I have no other In-App Purchases?
So far I've tried disabling a lot of background apps to see if there were any conflicts. Even with basically no other apps running in the background there's no change in performance.
In game I've tried disabling map and menu backgrounds and disabling scrolling, nothing seems to have an impact.

Thanks. Do you have the DPI set to something weird? That can have negative performance impact on a class of OS drawing calls and 5X owners are notorious for setting DPI to off the wall things.
