phaze, if you kill Tevensa and I keep her alive we should be able to make a good comparison of xp trade-offs. Who knows when I'll actually get there though...

phaze I max out most maps by the time I start episode 3. I avoid as much of the higher cap zones as possible (Long trail, Snow Canyon, Orcin Stronghold) but you have to fight some. Also I did a full clear of Darkmoss zones (after respawn) getting to UF. You might be able to get a bit more exp by min clearing and then doing UF and backtracking to Darkmoss (I was level 24 going through so if that's the cap then there will be no difference). I can't see me completing this run through till mid February at the earliest. Gotta finish a course and I am going to Disney World for 8 days soon (excited!), so barely any playtime there. For quick reference I was 500 exp from 30 on all my guys after clearing all of episode 2 (and none of episode 3). I'll post milestone scores in the Epic Failure thread.

Thanks.
I am trying to build a mental map of the XP gap. Given the most important thing is to kill all monsters the XP difference from a maxed map or 1 level below is small, 1 xp per monster per level difference. This excludes monster bonuses. Given any monster kill works to advance your level and that we have kill some enemies below the cap, the total benefit seems to be at the margins.
Lvl 29 is roughly where I end up at the end of EP 2 if memory serves.
Given the inherent game to game variability, this may fall within the noise. Example, after multiple Ep 1 completions, my score can vary as much by 4 M (159 M to 163 M) with the same party and same play approach.

On nightmare these caps translate to monster levels thusly 17 - 21 19 - 23 22 - 26 24 - 28 28 - 33 matrim, I'm encountering level 22 spiders in Brellim Pass. Based on the above info I would have expected them to cap out at 21. My team is all level 19.

contributorHmm maybe it is 18 - 21 + 20 - 23 I went through Brellim Pass about 3 weeks ago and I thought everything there was Level 21. Maybe Pass is the same as Peaks then...

In Darkmoss, the monsters are also level 22. So it would seem that on Nightmare player level 19 means monster level 22 and Brellim is probably capped at 19 player level.

Static xp award: visit Elias after Gholla, get 500 xp, I think this is the right amount Thanks, I added it to the list. Where you able to confirm any of the xp surrounding Hagathrun choices? If anyone can give me an estimate for Vlotgar and Tevensa boss kills that would be nice to know. It might be hard to get because you'll have to be monitoring XP very closely without the announcement text.

matrim As a comment on the sequence of darkmoss areas, if one does do talia and the Krete chieftains earlier, yo can boat to brunehorn after agreeing with Elias, do prospectors and clear the UF and then do the two darkmoss areas at a higher level. I think your route is still better for max xp, but this is one alternate route if someone values boat travel but still gives a chance for high xp on the two darkmoss map respawns.

Coming back through Brellim pass after the respawn, I am finding enemies of lvl 23 indicating a player lvl cap of 20.
Edit. Lowlands pass had a similar lvl 23 enemies. Prospectors pass respawn has enemies of lvl 28/ player lvl 25.

Question: I'm following your mini-guide on max XP and I'm wondering about the story. Are there any quests I shouldn't be triggering while I'm maneuvering around the world? Right now I'm in Ep2 and I just did the one Crag Peak battle and am getting ready to go onto the Sea Road. I know some of the Granthorn storyline is Ep3. Will I screw anything up if I talk to some of the people in Granthorn about Wyatt etc...? Also, do any of the weapons "scale" at the shops so by going in there at my current level 20 will I miss out on better weapons later? Or could I conceivably see some really good equipment there now but I probably won't have the money to buy any of it? I seem to remember in my first playthrough that I had over $300k when I got to Granthorn. This time I have less than $20k....

Sometimes, shops will change their inventory after a story event has occurred.

crimsonking Thank you. I thought that was probably the case but I appreciate the confirmation. This game takes way too long to risk screwing it up by doing something out of order. fallen Wonderful! As I said above, I'd hate to miss out on anything after putting hours and hours into this runthrough. While I'm here.....the walkthrough has the player choosing the Braeys side for going to Ember. I'm trying to choose all the other options this time compared to my first time through and I went Braeys last time. I don't care either way because I'm going Koda this time but is there much difference between the two that anyone's noticed? You still have access to all the same maps, correct? Other than the Haunted Crypts vs Cursed Mines in Ep3, right?
