So I'm going along playing the ST2 alpha when my PC suddenly reboots and starts asking me for my password to get on. Turns out that having finally gotten around to setting up my email accounts on my PC Microsoft decided I needed to be logged on with a direct connection to all their bs stuff instead of on the "local" account I'd been using. I don't want microsoft going collecting my data and telling me how to do things. Everything was set up already, nice and simple, no one else has access to my PC so don't need a password to enter windows and start doing my thing. But no had to log on with my MS password, dig around and figure out what had happened then cough up the password again so I could log out and back in on my "local" account. Bloody idiots "making life easier" and instead actually making it more complicated. đ

Moments like this are why you decide "enough is enough" and install Linux.

I am dual booting. Ubuntu linux is nice, because it has no useless crap, but I haven't really found a way to fill out the 80 GB of free space I have allocated to it Lack of games and useful programs for me However, I would use ubuntu for office works, because it is very fast, since it is lightweight.

MS continues to shoot themselves in the foot with each new release of Windows. I run a dual boot system so I can have total access to my files because it's getting harder and harder to access them because they keep making things hidden and locked.

Ubuntu is good for those who are use to Windows. They've made it very similar in it's point and click and program runs. I like to think of it as a good first stepping stone for learning Linux. Once you begin to under stand running things from a command line, yeah, there's lots of other and better Linux distro's out there. You can even start coding you own.

Well, I will never understand what is Linux good for I spent my entire childhood with windows 98, 2000 and MS dos I don't understand why windows 10 should be good either. They boot up fast though

My first computer was a Tandy Coco 3. The OS was on a rom chip. As soon as you turned it on, it was ready to go. People today get all excited about SSD drives and having a PC boot in just a few seconds. That's still not as fast as what a Tandy, or others like it could do back in the day. Some of the so called new ideas are really old ones. MS dos, Win 98SE, and Win XP are the three times MS got it right. Win 7 is pretty good. The only way I'll go to Win 10 is when I buy a new computer, and the first thing I'll do is set up a dual boot with a version of Linux. Win 10 may even be the version that makes me go full Linux. I've been steadily losing faith in MS for a little over 7 years.

The 2 problems with Win10 for me is the forced feature updates and reboots (not just security and bug fixes upon USER restart) and them going full Google on data collection...
If you can figure out how to get around those 2 things, 10 is a nice update to the lousy 8-8.1 ui, well lousy outside of touch screens.

I laughed so hard over Win 8 because it was just MS trying to cash in on the whole touch screen craze that got started thanks to Android. They rushed into it and just completely f#$ed up. Win 10 is another good example. Gave it out for free, but didn't really say what all was going to be involved with. Everyone I know that had a stable Win 7 system got screwed. Devices didn't work because of no drivers, files and setting got switched or worse, erased. By the time it was my turn to download and get Win 10, I never installed it.
