If you control the range in Ship-to-Ship combat you can stay at the optimal range for your weapons, escape if you choose or prevent your opponent from escaping. I'm looking for advice on this.
I assume the Pilot skill pool plays a key roll in this. Do any other skills contribute?
Talents like Sharp Steering can buff your ability to do this. Any others? I think I saw one for Crew...
Assuming Pilot is key to this, one can use ship upgrades to increase the number of strong Pilot dice you have. though you have to make sure your crew can handle it.
Are there other approaches to ship upgrades that will help with this. Like keeping the mass of your ship well below the maximum supported by your reactor--that's logical from a physics perspective, but I'm not sure it actually happens in game mechanics.

I'm finding lots of 'evasive maneuvers' skill is good for combat, if you intend to stay and fight. They hit you less. But I am very new and unskilled at this. 200% Pilot may be over the max, but I am not sure it is a bad idea for all that. More piloting skills are working out better for me. I suppose I should modify my ship to need those extra pilot percentages, but I haven't fiugured that bit out yet.

grävling, do you mean 'evasive maneuvers' Talents? Being at 200% with Pilot Skill isn't bad, but then half your pool is weak dice. You'd clearly do better by upgrading your ship and converting some of those weak dice to strong. Upgrading doesn't look too difficult, but the upgrades tend to increase soak for multiple Skills, so you need to account for that. Maybe a nice reactor upgrade.

So if you are building to escape, Navigation/Tactics/Speed/Command are your necessary skills.

How do you increase ship Speed and Agility?
I'm building to escape or Torp into submission, at my discretion. :-)

Ship Engine is a whole system by itself, it is different than a regular component. We're working on ship upgrades and designers for phase 2.

Can't wait to get my hands on a system that lets me really set up a ship how I want with a cleaner interface than current. Working with upgrading ships now but at times it almost requires me to break out scratch paper to try figuring out how much free mass I have available, especially after switching a few components around.

Need time to stitch the muscle onto this ridiculously powerful, huge, double-jointed, 8 armed, 4 winged, multi-headed skeleton. Just ... keep ... working ...
