Attributes define two major categories about a Crew.
Specific performance in individual combat and pool size and recovery.
Resilience and Fortitude stand out as they provide pool size, recovery and post-defeat bounce amounts for your two pools, Health and Morale.
The other attributes factor in to various Talents -- this is out of balance right now as we only have a fraction of the Talents that do this are in the game. Eventually each Attribute will have a balance number of Talents relative to it's value in combat and pools.
Most critical attributes on the ship belong to officers, who can bring them to bear for tests on missions, patrol, exploration, etc.

fallen Cory Trese The status display that I am talking about is the ship status, as seen in the earlier screenshot. I had a crew member with bonus skills of intimidate and negotiate. After they were promoted the bonus skills were not shown on the ship status screen in the [+#] fields for intimidate and negotiate. The job skills that came with that level of job were correctly displayed. Moving to the character stats screen via the 'Crew Button', the job skills were correctly displayed as per your explanation as JOB [JOB + BONUS] The issue that I am raising as a potential bug is that when a crew member is promoted to officer their bonus skills are not being displayed in the [+#] field on the Ship Status display. My current example of this is for the Job of Diplomat and skills of Intimidate and Negotiate.

So if we give XP priority E we can choose the Captains second job still? Thought that was a bug/mistake/loophole in previous version that had been fixed... Yeah, you don't get a second job with Profession as E. BTW, starting with a profession in D on the template screen indicates you start on level 2, but in game it starts on level 3. Same thing with profession E, says level 1, yet it starts the game at level 2.

But, my word ChocoCrowbar, You have those glorious bonuses at turn 45?! Are you firing people whose traits turn out to not give skill bonuses, or something? At the moment of the screen shot, the Crew are all level 1, and one at lvl 2. They don't add anything to the ship stats screen (I think, since I don't really know what those number mean) except for ship skills (pilot, navigation, etc). Starting with Profession E really lets you customize your captain, but those first few turns are harsh, since your ship doesn't have most ship skills full, even with a full crew, so they roll a lot of weak dice. I prefer it though.

Hi Cory Trese & fallen , I'm still horribly confused about what is supposed to be the case, vs. what may be display/calculation bugs... - Ship Ops skills - Very straightforward. All skills of this type from on-station Captain/Officers/Crew all pool together towards the dice pool. Right?
- Combat skills - These mainly come into place during combat. I assume Crew Combat relies only on the skills of the 4 people actually in battle. Do these get pooled in any way for ship combat? On-station only? Does it include non-Officer crew? Adding to my confusion is that Tactics and Stealth also are used for checks.
- Personnel skills - I'm under the impression that these are only used for checks.
In the Status screen: - I'm assuming the Ship Ops totals are working correctly.
- Combat skills aren't listed, except for Tactics. Why not Stealth too?
- For Personnel skills, it seems like all Job-skills are totaled, but only the bonus-skills points from Captain/Officers are listed in square brackets. Is this intentional? So do non-Officer crew who have bonus Personnel skills never use them?
It would be great if you could standardize the display format on all screens - either JOB (JOB+BONUS) or JOB (+BONUS) I think the latter is more straightforward...

athios - sorry for the confusion. We are going to dodge answering these questions until next update, as there are a lot of changes cooking which will simplify and a lot of bugs fixed. So, then we'll have something to talk about. Next update should be pretty soon. In the mean time, please consult the Rules Explanation thread for details on current rules: startradersrpg.proboards.com/thread/14606/st2-rules-explanation-thread?page=1
