First of all there is some confusion between your crew and your Crew. Second of all, The logs would read better if instead of "so and so (Hyperwarp Navigator) has quit the crew at level 2" becomes "so and so, a level 2 Hyperwarp Navigator has quit the crew.". But 'a Crew' reads poorly, while 'a Generalist' does not.
Of course, in a few hundred years, the feminists may have had enough influence that 'a Crew' instead of 'a Crewman' is the most normal thing in the world. Or we call them all Crewman, and the women feel included for all that, because taking exception to words that end in 'man' is so twentieth century.

When your recruiting they are called Crew Dogs, that gets shortened every place else to just Crew. Perhaps shorten it even further to CD

Well. going from Crew to Crew Dog would work for me.
"Amelia Brockridge, a level 3 Crew Dog, has died during a combat".
sounds good to me.

But what about the actual crew dogs?

But what about the actual crew dogs? Are we voting on Pets for Vigilante Skies now here?

I agree that the title of the Job 'Crew' should be changed to reduce confusion with references with the crew as a whole. Crew Dog sounds cool, and would suffice, but I'd prefer something completely different. Generalist seems a bit sterile.
Brainstorming other names: Sailor, Seaman, Starman, Starperson, Bosun, Starfarer, Mariner, Engineer, Mate.
Of those, I like Mate or Engineer best.

I think the only change should be referring to them as Crew Dog instead of Crew in things like logs.

Also when leveling them. The are getting more Crew Dog Talents. But (unless officers) they are getting Crew Pay.

But a Mate was not a Seaman -- it was a non-commissioned officer position. And our Engineers are called Mechanics.

grävling , I was looking for nautical crew titles I liked and not too concerned about the literal role they played in Earth navies since ST2 is a different universe. However, the weight of opinion seems to support using 'Crew Dog' universally throughout the game, a fine solution.

I think both Mate and Engineer are confusing (with First Mate, Officer and Mechanic). There is also a forthcoming job just called "Engineer" so those would conflict. I will talk to Cory Trese about Crew Dogs. Sailor might also work. I do agree -- using the same noun in 2 places for 2 different meanings isn't the best (see on-going discussion about Level).

In Alistairs Reynold's future worlds, one faction of spaceship dwellers are called Skyjacks. I've always liked the term.

I don't think we could take Skyjacks but it does point out that we could just make up some ST-jargon.
Crewmonkey?
