How do interstellar merchant companies work? The Syndicated section of the lorebook says "...some cohorts are organized as an interstellar company of merchants...". How can a Syndicate captain be a part of a merchant cohort if becoming a star trader involves leaving their faction and cohort/family? Are they still legally star traders? I think this means that the Merchants are either geared towards working in the Exchange and interacting with Star Traders, or Faction merchant ships carrying cargo between worlds rather than independent operators like Star Traders

Retired Explorer and Retired Xeno Hunter can give trade permits. Ex-BH and ex spy can give edicts. Ex-Mercenary and Retired Exo-Scout can give military ranks.
What I don't understand is why they have the legal power to offer these services. "Retired" doesn't sound like an official political position within a faction. Where does the authority come from to decide to grant a star trader ranks, edicts, and permits?

Reputation and accumulated political sway with their factions bureaucracy. A former President, Prime Minister, other high ranking politician, General, Admiral etc in our current time can still wield a lot of influence and make things happen that most people can't simply due to the accumulated respect and connections they have gained over the years.

I'd like to see explanations for how the different ship guns work.
Torps, lances, and gravity drivers have been explained in some obscure threads on the forum, but they should be included in the lorebook for the benefit of new players.
How Railguns work confuses me because they do void damage. I guess they aren't standard sci-fi railguns that are propelled purely by electro-magnetism, but draw energy from the hyperwarp somehow?
Plasma Cannons also confuse me because they can be used at long distances. How is the plasma kept together in a compact sphere instead of dispersing? Is it more of a 'plasma missile' that autonomously tracks the enemy than a pure plasma spitter?
It doesn't make sense to me that Missile Launchers do some radiation damage, mostly because it can potentially mean there damage is boosted by talents like Engine Lockdown and Burner Skid. Those talents supposedly increase radiation damage by affecting the engine's output, but missiles, once launched, wouldn't be connected to the engine, therefore it doesn't make sense that their damage is boosted by it.
Autocannons are autocannons, but it would be nice to know additional details about how they are set up and operated. Also, I wonder how the ammunition for autocannons is designed.

How do new Star Traders acquire their first ship? Does their family or cohort buy it for them?

How do new Star Traders acquire their first ship? Does their family or cohort buy it for them? I imagine in many cases, the gift of a charter is an agreement between the Prince and a family or cohort. The details of the agreement must have varied charter-by-charter. Perhaps, the family was rich and bought the ship and also pledge such-and-such support to the prince for 10 years. Or, the prince needed a strong military mind in his void-space and so approached a family with the charter and the first ship, etc. There is no convention or law.

How are ships boarded? Are they just EVAing out there? Is there a boarding craft? I imagine some type of grappling gun is fired from the ship and a boarding pod is sent ship to ship pathed along the cable allowing boarders to return after combat. This would also support boarding from range.

Boarding is done by boarding crafts, it is mentioned in a talent if i remember well.
Do we know the release date of the lorebook volume 2? There is a lot of intersting aspects of the lore that shall be explored.
