fela: I sometimes find it's quicker to just close up and knock out the last guy or two than to run and escape. It's mostly those circumstances that I'm considering. Though, if I do decide to start looting again I might just go trawling and see what comes up, I wonder if I'd get different stuff from corp-land than the trawlways. Interesting, I think I'll have to go test. -abs

Thanks for all the tips everyone! You've all been really helpful so far. Hmm, my next question is what exactly is a stealth exit and how do I do that vs just escaping normally? Also, what is a good class for a beginner? I'm about to restart and play on Normal. Easy hasn't been challenging me at all.

Ah, a "Stealth Exit" is one of the choices you get after you win a fight. You won't see it if you successfully escape a fight.
Generally a cyber-sword is a pretty solid class for my play-style. I know some folks like gunslingers but I find them a little too lethal, makes it hard for me to keep heat down.

Ah, I guess I just realized that I have never killed everyone in a fight before, so I guess that explains it. I usually escape and only kill if I have to to get away.

I know some folks like gunslingers but I find them a little too lethal, makes it hard for me to keep heat down. The Gunslinger's formulae: Gunslinging = Skill + Pistol rounds + Pistols Pistols + Pistol rounds require Money Skill requires XP or Money Therefore Gunslinging requires Money + XP or Money If there is a lack of either, the Gunslinger will die Battles produce Heat Heat produces more battles Therefore Heat = Battles Battles also produce XP + Money + Pistol rounds Therefore, Heat = More XP + Money + Pistol rounds Gunslinging produces Heat, which in turn produces XP + Money + Pistol rounds Therefore, Heat = Gunslinging From that we can deduce that Gunslinging = Gunslinging Thus, a Gunslinger that actively tries to avoid Heat is going to die. Quickly.

For the last few months I have only been stealth exiting, but now there is new content to find, so the last character I made and my new one of today will start looting on occasion. Mostly when I am big enough that heat doesn't matter, as I can escape out of any fight I find myself in, if not immediately, then in a round or maybe 2.

I just restarted as a Gunslinger on normal and I'm loving it. I like combat a lot more as a Gunslinger than as a Sniper.

Now i wisely hire runners('bout this, the "Persona-Fix bla bla bla" computer file is really useful,i always forget faction runners classes)...Only sometime...And the last runner lived more than other,i admit...=) ever better XD

Yeah, the longer I play him, the more I love him. Already considering jumping up to the next difficulty level. I'm the type of gamer who enjoys playing a game on the hardest difficulty. Permanent Death sounds scary though... Might give Brutal a shot just for the hell of it.

It's not that scary, actually. Just DIE DIE DIE!! AND YOU NEVER COME BACK!!! THERE IS NO AFTER LIFE!!! NO PEARLY GATES!!! NOT EVEN BURNING HELLS!!! JUST AN ETERNAL LIMBO OF NOTHING NESS!!! And then, you create a new character.

How can you feel affection for an unnatural freak who is immortal?

I got kind of fond of the Nameless One from Planescape: Torment by Black Isle.
(and he was an unnatural freak who was immortal)

I still love that game. I'm a huge, HUGE, role-playing geek (I play an average of 2.5 nights a week, various systems). Torment introduced me to the Planescape environment. That might have been good, or bad, depending on how one views things. On the bad side I had to spend a bunch of money on eBay because I'm a completionist and my collection of Planescape material wasn't complete. (It's complete now, has been for many years now in fact) On the good side I found a setting that has dominated my thoughts and games for years now. Not every d&d game I run is Planescape, but they're all influenced by it.
So I'm afraid the Nameless One has a place of honor in my head. He's hard to get away from.
Frankly, if planescape was set to tech instead of magic he'd be one hell of a Cyberknight in the NSZ! (New Sigil Zone)
(Shadowrun in Sigil FTW! btw.)
