Hey everyone, I just bought the Elite Version today and I was wondering if any of you experienced players could give me some tips to get me started? It would be highly appreciated. : )

Tips: "Heat management can be a bear. Try to rest up if it gets red." "Runners are expendable, YOU ARE NOT." "Don't run for the hospital, heal NOW." "Stay the hell out of corp/Ox/Yak territory until you're ready" "You need to buy a pair of cyan blue gloves. The best ones are the Tasers and the Stunna." -Gravling (always worth listening to)
You can take a look at my post that's not a guide to starting up. But bear in mind that I'm asking for help in playing on a difficulty of "Brutal" so it may not apply to your game. (though following Gravling, Slide, and fela's tips will help your game no matter what difficulty you play at.)

and... -Strenghten ur stats/skills with cryteria; -Focus on Movement,in combat, often this will save your life; -Buy a dataport 1 or 2,so u can access Matrix, and steal some paydata(and selling to backrooms/contacts) -If u want vchips, confront and interfereeeeee!!!Don't be scared ^^ -Taxis are useful if u must travel 2+ sectors away, either it's better to walk(cheaper way); -Don't call ur char Wolverine,it's an extremely unlucky name;....XD

Haha, I'll keep those things in mind. Haven't had much of a problem yet, but I'm only on easy mode at the moment and I just started. My only real question is how to reduce heat? I slept at a hotel three times in a row and it only went down by around a bar or two the first time and the next few times it never changed at all.

A good method is to sleep in 2-3 hotels(sleeping in the same hotel more than one time doesn't reduce ur heat like sleeping in 3 hotels, sure ^^) 'Bout difficulty stuff, it's like ST: try to learn more u can in Easy difficulty(in ST is basic),then try to raise the difficulty =) then,it depends how u prefer to play: I don't like permadeath,so i play Normal(even if i'm tempted by Permadeath with 0 XP in the next difficulty mode) =) Another advice : Get a good weapon and a good armor(for beginning,a medium-high Accuracy weapon,so u won't miss many hits) ^^ Which class do u use?? ;D

Been playing as a Sniper. Haven't been fighting unless it was against someone I couldn't get away from, such as Gang Bosses and Hunds (the dogs, is that what they're called?). Also, I've been trying to raise my Athletic skill up to 6 before I focus on other skills and attributes. Just got it up to 6. Another thing I was curious about is where/when can I get teammates?

Ok so yes, focus('bout combat skills) on athletics and firearms, and evaluate the idea to not use a sniper rifle(low rateo fire, less hitting chances) For teammates(Runners by now,TB will add in future Knights, another type of teammate): 1)Raise target faction to 5(obviously,at least 5^^) 1a) try to get fully rested(i explain u after) 2)Go to the buildings called Backrooms(buildings with the four-type icon)and access to backroom services(the same icon button in the building),it will cost u 15 Nuyen 3)start drinking, eating and listening(first two have a cost, 10/30) 4) when u see on the right part of the menu a Persona-fix,approach him/her 5) hire your runner =) the price isn't constant, anyway 1k-2k sure 6) when the "runner contract" expires(after 2-3 days if i remember right) u just go in a backroom, and push the bottom button, then "Locate runner" button... If u fail to locate the runner, just retry pushing the button ^^when u locate(and then re-hire) your runner the price will be cheaper, don't worry, and your runner will have all the equipment u gave him *IMPORTANT* When u hire the runner equip him with a good armor, dont forget =) and heal him!!! Sorry for my english,if u don't understand something just tell me ^^

Ah,the 1a point is necessary 'cause when u are in backrooms and interact(eating drinking ecc) the gametime continues to go on,so u could be exhausted at a certain point ^^ not good if u want to get some job in the backroom^^

Buy a 23 job computer for 3.6K as soon as possible. There is a reasonably priced (8.5K) 3 job computer at Mars Importers in Charlesbank. Buy that as soon as you can, too.
Stunning your enemies doesn't increase your heat at the same dreadful rate as killing them, so buy a cyan blue glove. The best sort do 5 mp damage, and are called Tasers and Stunnas.
Kill or stun the enemies with multiple attacks per round first, and kill the faster moving ones before the slow ones.
Boost your MP above 10. I am not sure that above 15 does you any good, though.
For a sniper -- buy a Yak mk 251 until your firearms skill is very good, then buy a HunterSight.
You want to take jobs that are reasonably close to each other. If you spend too much time travelling vs doing things that increase your rep, your rep will never go up with the faction you are tragetting. So get those mutli-job computers as soon as you can ...

Cavinee - a Cyber Knight is a vagabound criminal. To reduce your heat effectively, you need to keep on the move, using multiple safe-houses and hotels. Also, if you can befriend a faction by working actively for them, their positive Rep offsets your heat, which can give you a safe zone to work within when you have gained a lot of heat and need to take it down.

I forgot an important one. If you are trying to minimise heat, you want to use 'stealth exit' and not 'normal exit'. You won't get any loot, but the heat savings early on is worth it.

Even late game you still use the Stealth exit, don't you Gravling?
(I ask because that's my current mode as well, my logic being that I no longer really care about getting the odd ammo-pack or bunch of drugs. But I'm wondering if I'm missing out on all the cool stuff like interesting files that I recall seeing when I did loot people. So I'm currently debating, internally, the question.)

Unless my heat level is stratospheric, I generally don't use the stealth exit. I like to see if there is a new data file or leaked memo that I don't have. It all comes down to heat level, and your health.

Same here, I almost never use stealth exit, but then i also rarely do NOT escape from combat once my goal is accomplished - not so much because of heat but also because i can't be bothered with spending time in a fight i cannot lose anyway .
