I am already getting mail asking to explain this. People who like finding things out for themselves should stop reading now, there are spoilers here.
NOTE: The game has matured. With the addition of the rumour system the 'one day of grace' is no longer true -- if you evesdrop on some Mars corp types, even when trying to ignore them, they will fight you. So you can still get yourself a 2 job computer or a few thousand Yen in starting cash this way, but quit before the day is done. And, as point of fact if what you want is to start the game with a fat bank balance, play Made not Born and just do assasination/captures at ~1000Y a mission. You will never make so much money for such easy work -- Los V Tunnel rats are hardly a challenge. With a rep of 75 with the Fennians you can leave even if you have been ignoring the MnB storyline. added Feb 15 2013 by Grävling
NOTE: With the new V2 Connectors, and the new job system, this no longer works at all. Maybe unsticky? added April 4 2014 by Grävling
Ok, here it is. How to start your CK days with a 2 job computer and 4,9xx in the bank after your first day. The premise behind this start is that the game recalculates difficulty based on your XP every time you go to a Hotel and rest. On your very first day, your stats are such that you can pretty much make every saving throw. This isn't because you are good at anything, just that the game is kind to you on day one. So provided you do not go looking for trouble -- say, taking on an assasination mission, or confronting somebody -- you can pretty much do what you like on day 1, and day 1 only. While your heat is low. After a while you will have done enough that you have generated visible heat -- and then the honeymoon is over. Get out of corps land while you can, because you cannot survive an encounter with Corp security heavies. They're stronger, more athletic, and have way more AP than you do, not to mention better equipped and better skilled. So you cannot fight them, or run away from them.
But before the heat warms up do this:
Go to the Laughing Dog. Get Vinny's chip. Take a taxi to Texas Roadhouse (Beacon Hill).
Take an Escort Mission. It will be to a building either in Yakashima (the neighbourhood) or in Aztek Global. If it is in Aztek Global, it will either be to Frontline Medical Warehouse, in which case it is north of a wall that divides Mars Corp and Aztek Global in two, or it will be to some other address in which case it is south of the wall.
Escort your meat-package, making sure that you are on the proper side of the wall for where you are going. Yakashima deliveries want south of the wall.
Walk to the Bar of Birds (North Square). Or taxi there, if your first job left you close to a terminal or phone.
Take an Escort job to Mars Corp (the neighbourhood) by taking and then cancelling any jobs you might be offered that don't go there (mostly ones to Copley Square) until you get one that you want.
Escort your meat-package. Stay south of the wall.
Walk to the Six Shooter Club (Mars Corp) if you aren't already there.
Buy 2 crammers.
Take a package or message delivery job to Old Bridge or Old Church, again by taking and then cancelling any jobs you might be offered that don't go there. The Old Bridge ones pay slightly better.
Take a taxi to your Old Bridge job destination, or directly to the Old Bridge S-Mart if you took an Old Church job. Deliver your message or parcel. Proceed to the Old Bridge S-Mart.
Buy a 2 job computer. Activate it.
Take 2 crammers.
Walk North to Old Church. If you have a message or package delivery to make there, do it.
Go to the Happy Rogue Tavern (Old Church).
Take 2 escort jobs to Aztek Global by the now familiar process of taking and then cancelling any jobs you might be offered that aren't what you are looking for. Unlike the first 2 times, however, this can take a long time. The Yakuza are likely to be very angry with you for throwing away so many jobs. But you are going to leave Old Church before they can send some boys over to separate your head from your spine, so you will be ok. By the time you are skilled enough to return to Yakuza land they will have forgotten all about it. Also remember that it is not enough just to have 2 jobs to Aztek Global -- they must also be on the same side of the wall. So 2 jobs to Frontline Medical Warehouse is just fine, but one there and one to someplace else in Aztek Global is not.
Go deliver your meat-packages.
Head for a phone, and have Benni taxi you out of Corps land, to sleep somewhere. Do not doddle. Your heat is up. Aztec Security forces have been dispatched to investigate. Now is not the time to go shopping at Unified Research, or to find out what sort of implants are sold at Frontline Medical Tower. You are at risk of becoming dead now. If you get an encounter at this point in time, do not offer a bribe. That never works. Evade mostly doesn't work either, but occasionally is better than never.
You now have a 2 job computer and nearly 5 thousand nuYen, if you have done this properly. Also, you should have enough good rep with Mars Corp that you are welcome in their VIP room. If your idea was to use this yen to hire a martial artist runner, then you could do this after you wake up on day 2, before your Mars rep runs to 0 again, because Mars has martial artist runners. (So does Brave Star.) Neither territories is where a young and vulnerable CK wants to be. But there is a phone in the Golden Flower Lounge (West End), which makes getting a martial artist on day 2 all the more attractive. You can taxi in and out.
There are a few ways this can be improved. You get slightly more money if you begin with an escort job from the Happy Rogue Tavern, instead of from Texas Roadhouse. If an Aztek escort job shows up early, this is great. But if it shows up late, then you cannot get the 2 jobs from there later -- as the Yakuza will be out in force for your head as soon as you enter Old Church. Indeed, if this happens it is better to taxi from Six Shooters to Fairlight Outfitters in West End. You will miss out on the income from a Six Shooters job there, but you won't be dead. Buy your computer at Fairlight Outfitters, pop your crammers, and head to Texas Roadhouse for two more escort jobs (either both to Yakashima or both to the same side of the wall in Aztek Global).
You can also decide to buy more crammers and try to stay up longer. Sometimes you even get away with it. But my sucess-rate is something like 18%, so I don't bother with that any more.
One warning. If in the middle of things you end up being targetted by a patrol and for some reason miss your saving throw (CRIMINAL SCUM) and your heat hits the ceiling -- you have to be really abysmally unlucky for this to happen on day 1, but it can happen -- then abandon this whole idea. You need to find a hotel, fast, and sleep the heat off until you can take a taxi out of there. Let the meat-packages die, because at this point it is either them or you.
Hope this helps.
Suggestions for improvements welcome.
And is this worth a sticky?
