Has anyone noticed that the doctor's fee went up? I think it is calculating the fee for a single point of healing as the amount needed to heal all damage. For example, if you had 6 damage, it is charging ~$6000 for 1 point of healing. I just started a new explorer, and I can't make enough to heal. Is anyone else seeing this?

The Doctor can get very expensive if you land on a planet that you have negative rep with. I made the mistake of healing on a Cadar world once when I had -2000+ rep and each tick of health cost around $36,000!

I can see that in an established game. However, I just started this captain, and this is with my home faction (that I have positive rep with). Slightly higher at a nearby Javat planet (~$10,000).

I wonder if it's more cost effective to heal wounds when you're lightly damaged than it is to save up and heal when you're knocking on death's door?

the cost is exponential. the closer to death the Captain is the more expensive it is.
Factions with many planets are actually at an advantage because the Doctor leaves after a single use. So, it is cheaper to heal 2 points at Thulun Prime, 2 points at Thulun Outpost, ect instead of 8 points at Thulun Prime.

So an explorer at an urban/wild planet should hit the doctor after the first wound, instead of saving up for one big emergency room visit.

Good to know! I had never noticed that before (probably never been poor enough to care about the price of healing). Gonna sell my starting ship for a rank ship and see if I can turn this captain around.

A good way is to think of the damage as a percentage of your health. One point of damage means 10% of you is damage as your captains have a max of 10 health. That alone is a lot of damage in real life, imagine having burns over 10% of your body.
Now if you wait until you have 3 health, that means 70% of your body is damaged or infected. What do you think your real world life chances of survival would be? At the least it would be really expensive to get you back to health.

Or think about taken damage as health STATE. It is much harder to heal someone who is dying, has no legs, holds his liver in his hands an kidneys on a plate, than 8 guys with sore throat or a scratch on a chin.

or, in ST RPG ... how do you heal a man who has lost 4 ears? He has -2 ears -- that is like gonna be expensive!

I've lost 4 hands before. I certainly hope that the Dr didn't go and create 4 when he healed me though - actually come to think of it, having 4 hands could be kind of useful in the middle of a space battle ...

sgtcookie Cory is right, create new character, explore nearest planet to loose health and find out for yourself I just did that and found out that: At normal difficulty level it doesn't matter, price is the same for healing 3 times 1 wound or one time 3 wounds (one wound 1000, three wounds 3000) However on higher difficulty levels, the price for healing one wound on insane is 5000, with 8 health it gets 6000, and with 7 health 7000 (for single wound). So healing 3 wounds at once would be 3x7000=21,000 while 3 wounds immediately when they occur (with 9 health) 3x5000=15,000 Faction standing and rank has considerable impact on the price. I've also noticed, that when you enter the doctor, press back and enter again, the price changes and you don't seem to burn time or water. I think that it goes for the upgrades as well.
