I don't understand why it's hard to understand rep loss going the way it does. Factions are practically omniscient and will know what happens. You stole goods, you kidnapped crew, and you destroyed a faction ship, regardless of whose name is on the title. Steal, kill, destroy, the unholy triumvirate. A ship that never comes home leaves as much evidence as a black box records. Maybe the ships beam back constant info, or do so as soon as engaged. It doesn't matter. If you don't want rep penalty, avoid an encounter.

Oh no, I completely agree. The current system is the simplest and best way to go about the whole situation. I was just talking about stupid hypothetical cases for fun. I don't think the current system should change at all.

My last post wasn't directed at you, good sir. It was actually addressing starfixer's questions about why every single condition adds to rep penalty.
