On Crazy I was able to do 2). Starting ship and starting profession seems to be a key here. Doing trading, exploring, pirating, blockading etc. first for a while may also be a good strategy.

Sorry, not to throw too much out here but a simpler formula like (successful contracts)-(failed contracts x 2)-(rejected contracts x 5)=score would be a very easy way to do it. Also there's a huge potential exploit to this. If someone kept their level below 5 or so, they would get easier short range contracts. So there should be some rule to prevent that.

grävling and contributor, there are definitely different options you can take to do the challenge, however I can almost guarantee that a level 5 captain would NOT be able to do 100 successful contracts with less than 10 failures, even with say 20 rejected contracts. Delivery contracts come up a lot, but sooner or later, you're going to get a combat or a blockade or surveillance contract that either chews up significant time, or causes you to fail. Also, low level contracts tend to pay crap money. Often, it costs more to repair the damage you've taken fulfilling the contract than the reward itself. Also, doing things to minimize your contract difficulty (eg avoiding trade permits, ranks or death warrants) will also limit the rest of your game play.

When doing my test on Crazy, there is no way to be able to stand bounty hunting contract at very low level unless you are very lucky. They either outrun you (fail) or shoot you (epic fail). And doing surveillance on target at low level does not work either. I was leveling up as fast as possible.
As I said before, I would forbid rejections. It is too easy. Just let the contract fail and live with the consequences!

I once kept a captain at level 1 past the year 200 on Hard. Surprisingly I was still able to surveil and blockade with the right ship.

contributor ... first up hell yeah, you're welcome to try the low level approach to the challenge. Also, I've done some playtesting, and was just trying to get a captain established enough to feel confident in contract success. He's sitting at level 6 on turn 1081. As such, I agree with Fenikso - 100 contracts in 5200 turns is, shall we say, difficult. I'm going to push back to the 10,000 turn default - so 100 contracts in 10,000 turns. No rejections, but a certain number of failures or expiration is allowed. Will post up the challenge today and see how things pan out.

Is there an easy way to track the number of turns that have passed, without having to exit the game and go to "roster" everytime? Put another way, what will the stardate be at turn 10 000?

You can do math and compute ending date. I am too lazy to do that :-).

slayernz Thank you. Stardates and turns have always been unimportant to me until community challenges came along.

So is the next challenge lined up yet? I know you guys have a rotation of some sort between the different games. I'm getting to where I could probably compete in a TA one, but CK is out of the question for me.

I admit that I haven't been paying attention. Was the results of the last community challenge ever officially announced?

I'd be curious to see the official table too, it would be interesting to see how everything turned out. Granted, I lost by a HUGE margin with my -1k score, but it's always fun to watch the greats!
As to the next challenge, well I think that's pretty much open to whatever we feel like. There really is not set rotation, we were just moving it around to give every game a try. Anyone got any ideas what would be a good challenge for next month?
I might have to sit the next challenge out if it's run on the second week of September as I'll be on vacation at that time. I'll try to take part in it, but I'll probably be silent from the middle of the second week to the end of the third week.
