All of this is great, but what exactly is the formula that explains the relationship between 'base price' and 'price you can buy/sell them for in markets'?

Prices will range from 25% of base to 850% of base.
That range will be derived from the city's economy and ratings.

So how hard would it be for the game to colour code the market, so that when you arrived if things were exceptionally inexpensive they could be colour X, and if they were exceptionally expensive they could be colour Y, while most items are sort of normal priced, so they stay the neutral colour you are using now?

It will be hard but I am working on it.
ST offers this with the averages displayed in the Trade window.

Thank you very, very much. As it is hard -- allow me to make it harder. How accurate this is could be a function of your haggling skill. Poor hagglers do not notice bargains, nor great selling opportunities....

I like grävling's idea, but realize that it probably isn't possible easily. I've been really busy lately (took a small vacation and am trying to plow through my backlog at the office) so haven't been able to put much time into anything over the past week, but the merchant game is by far my favorite part of AoP

That doesn't really fit the definition for what Haggling is, which is negotiating for a better deal. We are just talking base market prices here. It would make more sense for Intelligence and maybe Journals to factor into whether you can spot a deal. Although tbh I'd rather it was the same display for everyone.

I turned the resource list into a pricelist. If you want a copy of the quick and dirty python script I used to make this, see: www2.openend.se/~lac/AoP/pricelist/pricelist.py.txt
Good low base high Ship's Rations (0s 5c) ( 0s 20c) ( 0s 70c) Hemp (0s 12c) ( 0s 50c) ( 4s 25c) Luxury Rations (0s 18c) ( 0s 75c) ( 6s 37c) Rum (0s 25c) ( 1s 0c) ( 8s 50c) Powder and Shot (0s 50c) ( 2s 0c) ( 17s 0c) Canvas (0s 50c) ( 2s 0c) ( 17s 0c) Molasses (0s 60c) ( 2s 40c) ( 20s 40c) Silk (0s 62c) ( 2s 50c) ( 21s 25c) Timber (0s 75c) ( 3s 0c) ( 25s 50c) Spices (1s 25c) ( 5s 0c) ( 42s 50c) Journals (1s 50c) ( 6s 0c) ( 51s 0c) Maps (2s 25c) ( 9s 0c) ( 76s 50c) Gold (7s 50c) (30s 0c) (255s 0c)

Prices will range from 25% of base to 850% of base. That range will be derived from the city's economy and ratings. I'm finding that I could sell (but not buy) rum at Ruesgard for less that 25% of base. Are those numbers just the purchase price of goods?
