John Robinson I've mapped out the leveling info for Tamilin and Fyona (and Vraes and Vincent, but you already have those) up to level 20-ish. Interested in this info? If so, any preference in how you want to receive these tables?
Wow! +1 Exalt. I know how much work it takes to put the data together. Vraes, Vincent,
Selen and Kyera are current with where my group was at the end of EP2 A1.
I have such a hard time giving up Selen to run a Tamilin group getting her data would be particularly helpful. It will be a while before
I can verify and post the numbers for Fyona, that would be great too. I don't usually post anything to a table I haven't
tested/verified 100% myself. In this case, The Leveling Table, so far, has been a fairly static table, so this could work.
When completed the table will span all 4 episodes and all 8 acts. So eventually I'll have to slow down the posting to take full
responsibility for accuracy. Let's give Tamilin and Fyona a test drive for statistics that end at EP2 A1.
Anyway that is convenient for you to provide the info is good for me. I need a "combination lock" format like you see in the table,
Level, Attribute, Skill, Talent.
For example you can see Vraes level 3 has a 3 2 2 1. I already have the XP.
TeeWee /
John Robinson - wow, would either of you guys be willing to post these as Guides to Steam? That would be
huge to show a potential tactics player the depth of the game!
The more Steam Guides the better. I'm working on a couple of my own right now.
Publishing the tables on Steam: It is critically important that only one person be responsible for maintaining the tables
published on Steam and the Forum. A single point of authorship prevents copied tables from getting out of sync. Otherwise the person on the Forum would not
be able to update a different author's copy on Steam. Conflicting information will only create frustration among Steam users.
I am willing and able to publish a second copy on Steam and maintain it.
If someone else wants too do it, then I'm not too proud to bow out. The Forum tables would need to be copied or recreated for
a new author to maintain, then my existing Forum tables should be deleted to avoid the same conflict of information.
Otherwise I'm happy to just keep plodding along like I always have. It is something I've enjoyed doing.
The Startup, and Leveling tables are not very difficult to maintain, but when the Duelist is completed there will be a total 722 Talent
levels to monitor for accuracy. This is currently being done with periodic audits, and version notes then published in the Forum Talent tables.
Each character's table is labeled with the version in which the last audit was performed or the last time a Character talent changed.
I can start by publishing the Leveling and Startup tables fairly quickly and see how that goes. Then follow up with stand alone Talent Tables.
I am thinking of the "Big Picture" with three possible ways to use the Steam tables.
Option 1. I can put together a guide that explains and includes links to the existing Forum tables. The guide would use the same approach
as the original tutorial
fallen and I put together with a different focus as a tactically oriented guide with screen captures and narrative.
Inserting links for the tables would provide an "Outside In" approach and maintain a single point origin
for updates. The current
Heroes and Monsters sticky thread is actually a complex web of interlocking tables that allow users to be
selective about what they want to view in an easy to read format. It also allows for the flexibility of adding thread
references such as
Combat Mechanics.
Option 2. I can put together a guide for each character that references
stand alone published Steam Tables. That way it still only has to be maintained in two places, safe guarding control of synchronization. I would continue to stand behind
the accuracy for all the tables without introducing conflicting information. Anyone else could easily write their own guides and
reference the standalone tables without inserting them.
Option 3. I could put a
Talent Table inside a guide for each Character. This can be done but there must be only one copy so
a standalone table could not coexist. It would be a complete guide with illustrations just as Option 1 and 2 would.
I think Steam Guides also have the ability to create active table of contents, and this would be very helpful. If this is possible
Talent Tables could even be used as appendices to not break up the narrative and allow the reader to snap back to where they left off.
Conclusion: Option 2 Much to my surprise this is the best choice for the potential HoS customers and players. Why?
a) When I read things on the web I'm very wary of documents that point to external links for security reasons.
So pointing to Forum internal links could be discouraging to viewers. This is the very same reason I promised tables inside the forum
will not point to external links.
b) Navigation: Most people just want to read it all in one location without bouncing back and forth to information sources outside the guide.
One guide per character or one for all with active table of contents.
The Long View: The Guides should eventually span all 64 levels for 8 Characters with useful information that helps with each Episode.
That is a big job, but this would be the first step of the journey. It begins and ends as a comprehensive guide or series of guides
using tips gleaned from all over the HoS Forum. I would like to see and encourage many Steam Guides be published for HoS.
But this one includes volatile tables, if there are no objections, I volunteer the time and will take the responsibility for the contents
of this particular guide or standalone tables.
The moment of Truth: fallen TeeWee What are your thoughts?
Which option would you like to go with? Do you have better alternatives?
